Parish Council Minutes Dec. 5, 2022, at 6:30pm - Via Zoom
Present: Father Hammond, Brenda Arnold, Linda Bratton, Marcia Durbin, John Fongheiser, Ed Gardner, Kevin Girardi, Marie Holland, Barb McComb, Marie Mosher, Kevin Murphy, Dave Rashley. Excused: Bill Durbin, Tammy Harrmann, Sheryl Mickley Approval of Minutes: Barb McComb made a motion to approve the minutes. Ed Gardner seconded the motion.
Education & Youth Report: PSR: Thurs. Dec. 8 is a Holy Day of Obligation. Vigil Mass will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 6:30pm. PSR students will be attending the Vigil Mass. A parish penance service will be held on Wed. Dec. 14 starting at 6:30pm. Grades 2 through 6 will meet in the center and then head over to church. Kindergarten and first grade will have normal classes. There will be Pageant practice and a Christmas party on Wed. Dec. 21 (6:30-7:30pm). On Saturday, Dec. 24, the Christmas pageant will begin at 4:00pm with Mass to follow at 4:30pm. Youth Group: The Youth Group completed the Immaculata series. Sunday, Dec. 11 is movie night. “The Shack” will be shown beginning at 6pm and ending at 8pm. The Youth Group will start a new 4-part series in January called “The Complete & Total Guide to Human Happiness.” This series explores what it means to live for Christ, the beatitudes, living the law of love, trusting Church authority, and forming our conscience.
Knights of Columbus: Thank you to all St. Luke parishioners who continue to give generously to the monthly collections for seminarians. December’s collection was $231.45. Last week’s fish fry was not as well attended with 101 meals served. The next fish fry will be Friday, Jan. 13. Coats for Kids will wrap up soon. Coats were donated in both the center and in the church. Nine new members joined the Knights of Columbus and were officially installed in the Knights Hall. There will be 3 new members joining the 4th Degree from St. Luke with the installation in Sunbury. The Knights will be selling “Keep Christ in Christmas” magnets after masses starting this weekend. Parish Council of Catholic Women/ Community Life: The PCCW had a “Chalk Party” on Sun. Nov. 27. Eight ladies attended. PCCW will be helping with the gifts for the PRS Christmas party as well as helping to put together and distribute the Christmas baskets. Parishioners are asked to stay after 10am Mass on Sun. Dec. 18 to help decorate the church for Christmas. Marcia and her crew will be providing a meal for the priests who are coming for the parish penance service on Wed. Dec. 14. There will also be a funeral service that day. There will be a funeral dinner for Eric Winterhalter on Sat. Dec. 10.
Maintenance: At the church, the maintenance crew cleaned the landings in the bell tower. They removed mice from traps in the church. The maintenance crew replaced several light bulbs in the church basement, the flood lights to the altar, and the large flood light in front of the church. They repaired and rebuilt the vacuum cleaner used in church as well as replacing an electrical outlet in the sacristy. They made and glued a backboard on the cabinet in the south side of the sacristy and repaired a dent on the edge of the paten. They located and tightened the ground wire in the choir loft breaker box. At the garage, the maintenance crew closed up a window, caulked a window, and installed a phone. They covered the picnic table behind the center and trimmed the rose bushes. Thank you for all your hard work!!
Finance & Administration: Fr. Hammond reported that the parish finances remain in good standing. The offertory collections are doing well. Thank you for your generosity to the weekly collections. Father is looking into the possibility of combining the three Parish Aid Funds held by the diocese in order to get a higher interest rate.

Services were held at Roberts Funeral Home Saturday November 26. Kathy Keogh, the wife of Phil, also died last month. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated by Father Hammond at St. Luke on Wednesday December 14 at 4:30pm. Eric Winterhalter, the husband of Patti, passed away December 1. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Luke Saturday December 10 at 11am. Two other deaths with parish connections also occurred. Lee Ann Crider, the aunt of Amy (Pat) Mickley and cousin of Carolyn Hallam, died November 19. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul, where Father PJ Brandimarti celebrated the Mass of Christian Burial on November 30 at 10:30am. Kevin Girardi’s grandmother, Joan Girardi, passed away November 5. Funeral Mass and burial were in Columbus on November 9. Please keep these families in prayer during this difficult time. This year’s Memorial Gathering is Friday, December 9. We are anticipating attendance of approximately 126. We in the ministry anticipate a rewarding evening of fellowship with our parish family.

The children’s pageant will begin at 4pm with the Christmas Mass beginning at 4:30pm. There will also be Mass on Christmas morning at 10am. Safety: Lights for the church doorbell are all currently working. Attention to the locked doors is needed so no one is locked out during mass. The back and side doors will continue to be locked.
New Business: a) Ed Gardner motioned the approval of Dave and Mindy Rashley as our new trustees for Danville interchurch. It was seconded by Marcia Durbin. b) Three parish council members, Marie Mosher, Bill Durbin, and Ed Gardner will be finishing their 3-year terms. The maintenance crew replaced several light bulbs in the church basement, the flood lights to the altar, and the large flood light in front of the church. They repaired and rebuilt the vacuum cleaner used in church as well as replacing an electrical outlet in the sacristy. They made and glued a backboard on the cabinet in the south side of the sacristy and repaired a dent on the edge of the paten. They located and tightened the ground wire in the choir loft breaker box. At the garage, the maintenance crew closed up a window, caulked a window, and installed a phone. Services were held at Roberts Funeral Home Saturday November 26. Kathy Keogh, the wife of Phil, also died last month. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated by Father Hammond at St. Luke on Wednesday December 14 at 4:30pm. Eric Winterhalter, the husband of Patti, passed away December 1. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Luke Saturday December 10 at 11am. Two other deaths with parish connections also occurred. Lee Ann Crider, the aunt of Amy (Pat) Mickley and cousin of Carolyn Hallam, died November 19. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul, where Father PJ Brandimarti celebrated the Mass of Christian Burial on November 30 at 10:30am. Kevin Girardi’s grandmother, Joan Girardi, passed away November 5. Funeral Mass and burial were in Columbus on November 9. Please keep these families in prayer during this difficult time. This year’s Memorial Gathering is Friday, December 9. We are anticipating attendance of approximately 126. We in the ministry anticipate a rewarding evening of fellowship with our parish family.

The children’s pageant will begin at 4pm with the Christmas Mass beginning at 4:30pm. There will also be Mass on Christmas morning at 10am. Safety: Lights for the church doorbell are all currently working. Attention to the locked doors is needed so no one is locked out during mass. The back and side doors will continue to be locked.

It was seconded by Marcia Durbin. b) Three parish council members, Marie Mosher, Bill Durbin, and Ed Gardner will be finishing their 3-year terms. Education & Youth Report: PSR: Thurs. Dec. 8 is a Holy Day of Obligation. Vigil Mass will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 6:30pm. PSR students will be attending the Vigil Mass. A parish penance service will be held on Wed. Dec. 14 starting at 6:30pm. Grades 2 through 6 will meet in the center and then head over to church. Kindergarten and first grade will have normal classes. There will be Pageant practice and a Christmas party on Wed. Dec. 21 (6:30-7:30pm). On Saturday, Dec. 24, the Christmas pageant will begin at 4:00pm with Mass to follow at 4:30pm. Youth Group: The Youth Group completed the Immaculata series. Sunday, Dec. 11 is movie night. “The Shack” will be shown beginning at 6pm and ending at 8pm. The Youth Group will start a new 4-part series in January called “The Complete & Total Guide to Human Happiness.” This series explores what it means to live for Christ, the beatitudes, living the law of love, trusting Church authority, and forming our conscience.
Knights of Columbus: Thank you to all St. Luke parishioners who continue to give generously to the monthly collections for seminarians. December’s collection was $231.45. Last week’s fish fry was not as well attended with 101 meals served. The next fish fry will be Friday, Jan. 13. Coats for Kids will wrap up soon. Coats were donated in both the center and in the church. Nine new members joined the Knights of Columbus and were officially installed in the Knights Hall. There will be 3 new members joining the 4th Degree from St. Luke with the installation in Sunbury. The Knights will be selling “Keep Christ in Christmas” magnets after masses starting this weekend. Parish Council of Catholic Women/ Community Life: The PCCW had a “Chalk Party” on Sun. Nov. 27. Eight ladies attended. PCCW will be helping with the gifts for the PRS Christmas party as well as helping to put together and distribute the Christmas baskets. Parishioners are asked to stay after 10am Mass on Sun. Dec. 18 to help decorate the church for Christmas. Marcia and her crew will be providing a meal for the priests who are coming for the parish penance service on Wed. Dec. 14. There will also be a funeral service that day. There will be a funeral dinner for Eric Winterhalter on Sat. Dec. 10.
