Parish Council Minutes October 3, 2016
Present: Father Hammond, Don Hawk, John Higgins, Tom Harrmann, Bobbi Thomas, Joanna Mickley, Tammy Harrman, Marie Holland, Keith Miller, Don Horn, Amy Mickley, Eric Morris, Sheryl Mickley, and Dave Rashley

Approval of Minutes: Motion to approve September minutes as submitted.
Youth Report: The high school youth have been meeting on the first three Sundays of the month in the center. In October they are planning to take part in the Starting Point Walk on Saturday October 8
th in Mount Vernon. On October 16
th they will be helping with the Sanctuary Dinner. October 23they will b having a fall hayride and fun activities. Plans are underway for the Right to Life March and Youth Rally in January. The trip will be Thursday January 26
th to28th. Letters will be going home with the youth soon. We have received the dates for CYSC in Centerburg. Three different sessions will be hold between June 11-July 17
th. We would like to send 4 youth. The Diocesan Youth Rally will be November 12-13 at St. Paul the Apostle in Westerville. Will talk with the youth more about this on October 9
th.
Knights of Columbus: Family of the Month: Council 910 would like to congratulate and recognize Lorna and David Patton. David and Lorna are longtime members of St. Luke’s Parish. They have supported St. Luke’s in many different ways over the years. Through David’s love of music he formed the original St. Luke’s Men Choir. David and Lorna also were strong supporters of the Blessing Cup for Vocations Ministry. We wish to thank David and Lorna for all their support.
Knight of the Month: Council 910 wishes to congratulate and recognize Mike Nester as the September Knight of the month. Mike is a fourth degree knight, and longtime member of St. Luke’s Parish. Mike is very active in both Council 910 and Assembly 2970. He is currently the Faithful Navigator for Assembly 2970. He is active working the fish fries, pancake breakfasts, as well as being an active member in the Fourth Degree Color Guard honoring our fallen brothers. Our thanks and congratulations to Mike, as September Knight of the Month.
Adopt-A-Highway: Will be on October 15, will meet at the Mickley building on Route 62 at 8:30am. Will be cleaning up mile marker 19-21. All are welcome.
Cemetery Mass: Our annual cemetery mass will be October 23, 2016 at 2pm at St. Luke’s Cemetery with Fr. Homer Blubaugh. This mass is in honor of past knights and all are welcome.

Squires: Squires attended a weekend retreat in Canton October 2 and 3
rd. Worked on team building, visited the football Hall of Fame and played flag football on one of the fields. Had a basketball tournament in Danville with approximately 20 squires and three leaders present. They attended the 9/11 Memorial Service at St. Luke’s.
Parish Council of Catholic Women: Held a meeting on September 18
th, with Harvest auction and covered dish went well. Was going to have massages in October, but not heard back from the adult education at the career center. Cards have been sent out. Will be buying pans for the new ovens.
Deanery Report: Fr. Hammond has ended his term as dean. New dean is Fr. Johnathan Wilson from Blessed Sacrament in Newark. Will have meeting with the Bishop Saturday October 8
th.
Maintenance: Bats have been taken care of. Continuing to move forward with the understructure repairs. Have had to wait on some materials to arrive and have found some more work that needs done, once the duct work was removed.
Finance & Administration: Currently over budget with all the repairs that need done, but doing ok thanks to all the continued support. We have decreased the office hours; they are currently Tuesday- Friday 930am-430pm.
Community Life: Turkey Dinner will be November 6
th, sign-up sheets are in the back of the church. Fire Prevention Week opens with a Chicken BBQ at EKCJFD on Sunday October 9
th. Fr. Lamy awards will vote this weekend and announce the winner October 15
th and 16
th. Kitchen appliances hope to have installed in October. Basket Bingo will be October 23 at 12pm.
Social Concerns: Fire Prevention Week is October 9-15, 2016. Families need to develop and practice evacuation plans. Remember to change batteries in smoke detectors. New Directions will be having a community Picnic October 16
th 3-5pm at The Barn. Santuary Community Action will be having a dinner October 16
th 11am-2pm at St. Luke’s Center. United Way has posted on their website the 2017 Community Investment.
Education: All is off to a good start; we had 44 students the first week and 50+ this past week. Will be doing parish prayer partners again. Still need parents to return their registration forms and PGC safety sheets, less than half have turned them in. Will be having a fire drill, and talking with the kids about the active shooter drill. Alpha is meeting during PSR time not sure how many are parents of PSR kids. Will have a teacher meeting this Sunday 9-10am at the pancake breakfast.
Worship: Have been working on the calendar for the holidays. The parish Penance service will be 6:30pm on December 14
th. Tentative time for Christmas Masses are December 24
th children’s pageant at 4pm with Mass at 4:30pm . Christmas Day Mass will be 9am.
Safety: Looking at placing grab bars outside both restroom doors. Also trying to finalize details for mass communication for emergencies with email and/or texting.
Eucharistic Adoration postponed till church completed.
