Parish Council Minutes November 7, 2016

Meeting called to order: Don Hawk
Approval of Minutes: Motion to approve October minutes as written.
Youth Report: The Fall festive party went well, kids had a good time. Will be helping with the PSR Christmas Party on December 7. Finalizing plans for the Right to Life trip in January received word got tickets for the youth rally. Letter regarding March will be sent to parents soon.
Knights of Columbus: Family of the Month: Council 910 would like to congratulate and recognize Sandy and Leonard Mickley as October Family of the Month. Leonard and Sandy are lifetime members of St. Luke’s as well as residents of the Howard-Danville area. Leonard, an active member of Council 91, has been a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 40 years. Both have been active in supporting the Fish Fry for many years. Sandy goes above and beyond her job description in the Parish Office, always willing to help parishioners, ministries and organizations. Leonard’s love of hunting has lead him to share his talent and know-how with many young new hunters over the years. Our thanks and congratulations to Sandy and Leonard Mickley Family of the Month.
Knight of the Month: Council 910 wishes to congratulate and recognize Father Homer Blubaugh as the October Knight of the month. Father has been a Knight for 56 years. He is busy supporting The Knox County Consortium in many ways and also supports parishes outside the consortium, Father Homer supports the Knights Council #910 in activities such as co-celebration of the Knights of Columbus Memorial Mass. He also has done the same in supporting St Luke’s Church for some of the key mass celebrations throughout the year, as well as the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Father Homer emulates the principles of faith, charity and serving God, key components of the fabric of the Knights of Columbus. Squires: Continue to focus on new members for their circle.
Parish Council of Catholic Women: No meeting in October. Will have meeting and craft on November 13
th at 2pm. Will be making a Nativity set. Senior Citizen Turkey Dinner will be November 17
th. Children’s Christmas Party is December 7
th.
Deanery Report: During the Lenten Season Bishop Campbell will speak on Pope Francis’ Encyclical, Laudato Si: On Care for our Common Home. He is looking for a location to speak to both adults and students. His last two talks have been at St. Francis in Newark and they again are a tentative site. The Encyclical speaks about what it is to be a human as well as the nature around us.
Maintenance: The restructure is coming along, 70 floor joists have been replaced, 1 of the 7 big beams is in place. Please stay out of the basement this is a safety concern for you and the workers. The dead trees near the center have been removed. The fall lawn and bush work has been completed. Handrails to the center bathrooms by outside doors will be coming.
Finance & Administration: Still doing ok, moving some funds from the reserves to operating funds to assist with all the work being done. Have applied for a grant through the Catholic Foundation to assist with all the work to the structure.
Community Life: Turkey dinner was held yesterday served approximately 350, down from last year. People bought extra turkey, served funeral dinner with leftover and gave some to Meals on Wheels. Christmas basket sign ups have started. Hoping to place the new equipment in kitchen starting November 17
th.
Social Concerns: Sheryl Mickley attended Global Solidarity Network meeting on October 25 for the Columbus Diocese. Education rooted in Christ that addresses global circumstances and global needs, along with actions that pursues justice for the common good. As followers of Jesus we accept God’s charge to care for all human life and for all creations. Presentations were given on current ministries within the diocese.
Education: We are averaging between 49-51 students; we have had our fire drill and were able to clear the building in about 35 seconds. In October have been talking about the Rosary, since October was the month of the Rosary. The whole group watched video Day the Sun Danced, the story of Fatima. Parish Prayer Partners class pictures are up. The Christmas party will be December 7
th, Penance Service will be December 14, Pageant practice will be December 21
st. No teachers meeting this month.
Worship: Please remember that when coming to church are in the Lord’s presence and need to dress appropriately. Parish Penance Service will be December 14 at 6:30pm. St. Vincent’s will be December 13
th at 6:30pm.
Safety: Communication system has been tested and went well. AED fundraiser coming, to assist with the purchase of an AED. Also will be doing training in the coming months.
There is an opportunity to run for Parish Council. We will have 3 people ending their term in January. If interested please see a council member or call the parish office.
