Parish Council Minutes November 6, 2017

Youth Report: The youth continue to meet on Sunday evenings. We are finishing up a series on adulting, leading the teens into adulthood. There are 12-14 kids on average attending. The group was given a tour of Damascus the summer youth camp, on October 22, unfortunately only 5 teens attended. Teens helped with the Sanctuary dinner and at the turkey dinner. The next series we will start is on the Holy Spirit.
Knights of Columbus: The October Family of the Month is the Mark and Judy Hedge family. Our congratulations to the Hedge’s for receiving one of this year’s Father Lamy Awards. The family is very involved with the parish. Most notable is their work in the music ministry. Mark, a Fourth Degree Knight is also the Insurance Field Agent for this Territory. He is an active Lector, Eucharistic Minister and Mentor for the Squires. Judy is involved with music; she paints icons, statue restoration, most recently completing one for the Bishop. She has been a key leader in Waking with Purpose. Joseph is Deputy Chief Squire for Ohio Squires. Rosemary is finishing her Master’s Degree in Education. Caitlin plays for six different orchestras and will be playing with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Christopher is trouble shooter for Amazon. Our thanks to the Hedges for their contributions to so many ministries and congratulations as Family of the Month. The October Knight of the Month is Roger Holland. Roger and his family are longtime members of St. Luke. Roger, a Fourth Degree Knight, Eucharistic Minister and is part of the Core Team with the Youth Group. He is also a regular attendee of That Man is You. Roger and his wife Marie are very active in Marriage Encounter, a critical ministry for today’s marriages. Our thanks to Roger for his involvement and contributions as well as our congratulations as Knight of the Month!
2017 Calendar and upcoming events:
Our thanks to all who attended the recently held Cemetery Mass. A special thank you to Father Blubaugh for celebrating the mass.
There is a Fish Fry on November 10th.
Council 910 would like to invite all Veteran’s to join us for a free Pancake Breakfast on November 12th.
The annual Memorial Mass will be held at the KofC hall on December 18th, followed by a pot luck dinner. All are welcome to attend.
Squires: Squires are actively seeking new members. Any young men in the parish, who are interested, please contact Mark Hedge.
Parish Council of Catholic Women: Meeting in September was at The French Ridge Winery with a fun pizza dinner. There were 8 ladies present. Fall dance is November 11, 2017 at 6pm. The tickets are $25 a couple and light dinner will be served. The bazaar at the Turkey dinner had lots of nice stuff, sold $170.00. December 2, will be going to Sugarcreek for a Christmas theater, tickets are $38 apiece. We will eat lunch and may stay in Berlin for their Walk to Bethlehem. We will carpool; call Marcia Durbin for tickets. There are 12 left. No December meeting. Next meeting will be January 21, 2018 and we will be doing a string art project. Children’s Christmas party will be December 6
th at PSR.
Deanery Report: Interchurch and St. Vincent de Paul Society are still receiving many requests for assistance. Fr. Wilson complimented the parishes for hosting activities like Walking with Purpose, and That Man is You. Deanery is still studying “Forming Intentional Disciples” by Sherry Weddell. Meeting with the Bishop regarding ongoing concern with opioid addiction. There was a drug summit held at Resurrection parish on October 27, 2017.
Maintenance: Concern about mold in the rectory bathroom. It is being addressed and making sure no leaking pipes. Condition of the garage doors was discussed; will look into it for the next meeting.
Finance & Administration: Remains in good standing.
Community Life: Father Lamy award winners were Charlie Beck and Mark & Judy Hedge. A huge thank you for all you do at St. Luke’s. Fire department Chicken Dinner on October 8 was able to donate $4,000 to Ben Young who was hurt in a tractor accident and is part of the fire department. Turkey dinner went great. Served close to 500 dinners, up from 348 in 2016. Big thank you to everyone that helped. Starting to get names in for the Giving tree. It will go up around Thanksgiving. Watch the bulletin for date and time to decorate the church for Christmas. Ministries party will be Sunday, January 7
th starting at 5pm. Danville Christmas Walk will be December 3
rd at 5:30pm. St. Luke’s has been asked to carol in front of the church.
Social Concerns: Opioid addiction was discussed and the different programs available to people. Also discussed were children whose parents are addicted. Seeing a greater need for foster parents. Also for children who have lost a parent to addiction there is a camp. For more information please visit The Moyer Foundation.
Education: Confirmation class is meeting on Sunday evenings and it is working out well. These students are starting to work on their service hours. The K-6 classes are going well. There will be no class on November 22, 2017, and December 20
th will be pageant practice only.
Worship: Thanksgiving Mass will be at 9am. Immaculate Conception Masses are December 8
th at 8am and 6:30pm. Penance service will be Wednesday, December 13 at 6:30pm. Christmas Eve Mass will be at 4:30pm with pageant at 4pm. Christmas Day Mass will be at 9am. New Year’s Day Mass will be January 1
st at 9am.
Safety: Reminder: All ushers, please lock the doors after Mass has started.
Other Business: Motion was made and passed to accept the new rules and regulations at the cemetery.
Candidates needed for Parish Council elections in December. There is a one year term to be filled, then three spots that are for 3 years. Please let Parish office know if interested in running.
