Parish Council Minutes December 4, 2017
Present: Father Hammond, Don Hawk, Dave Rashley, John Higgins, Marcia Durbin, Marie Holland, Amy Mickley, Steve Bratton, Theresa Morris, and Eric Morris
Excused: Sheryl Mickley, Bobbi Thomas and Keith Miller

Youth Report: The teens are gearing up for the Christmas Season. They will be helping with PSR Christmas party for the elementary students on December 6
th. Kris Kringle will be on December 10
th from 1pm-3pm for the seniors in the parish and the high school students. On December 16
th they will be wrapping presents for Christmas baskets. Continue to finish up plans for Right to Life March.
Knights of Columbus: The November Family of the Month is Duane and Sheryl Mickley. Duane, Sheryl and their three daughters Jessica, Jennifer and Melissa are longtime members of St. Luke Parish. They are active in many ministries as well as community activities. Melissa is the 2015 Council 910 Youth of the Year. Duane is a Third Degree Knight; he is active in supporting Fish Fry’s, leads pancake breakfast and has supported The Adopt A Highway Program. He is currently the council’s recorder. Sheryl has been active as a Lector and with PSR, council member and on the Safety committee. This year she has moved into a leadership position with the PSR Program. Our thanks and congratulations to the Duane and Sheryl Mickley Family. The November Knight of the Month is Tony Mickley. Tony is a lifelong member of St. Luke and longtime member of the Knights of Columbus. He is very active father as a coach to both Addison and Aiden, as well as supporting community athletics, with a special love for basketball and softball. At the pancake breakfast you will see Tony in the kitchen hard at work cooking pancakes. Our thanks and congratulations to Tony Mickley.
2017 Calendar and upcoming events:
There is a Fish Fry December 8th.
Pancake Breakfast is December 10th
The Annual Fourth Degree Christmas Social will be December 9th.
The annual Memorial Mass will be held at the KofC hall on December 18th, followed by a pot luck dinner. All are welcome to attend.
Squires: Squires are actively seeking new members. Any young men in the parish, who are interested, please contact Mark Hedge.
Parish Council of Catholic Women: Fall Dance had 20 people in attendance, all had a fun time. December 2 went to Sugar Creek for Christmas Dinner and play with 12 people, then did the Walk to Bethlehem, where 2 more people joined in. January 21
st will be the next meeting with a string art craft. Jazzy January will be January 28
th at 11am and open to anyone who sells product for an open house. Will be doing the PSR Children’s Party on December 6
th.
Deanery Report: Father reported last meeting was November 8
th, and next meeting will be in February
Maintenance: There was a leak in a pipe in the rectory causing the mold in bathroom. The leak has been fixed. Will be checking about getting the ceiling repaired. Will check with Hamilton Builders again regarding rust on new side entrance door. Will also get pricing on new garage doors as current ones have panels that are in bad shape.
Finance & Administration: Please call the office if interested in automatic withdrawal, need roughly 15 people so we can set it up.
Community Life: Giving Tree is up; gifts need to be back before Sunday December 17
th at 11am. Packing will be at 1pm on the 17
th. Will be decorating the church for the Christmas Season after the 10am Mass on December 24
th. Please plan to stay to help so can be done before Mass. Christmas Walk had 25-30 people caroling. Ministries party is Sunday January 7
th at 5pm.
Social Concerns: Keeping teens committed to faith. 35% of adult Millennials born between 1981-1996 are religiously unaffiliated. 12% of Catholics ages 18-29 attend Mass on a weekly basis. Five ways to keep teens committed to the faith: Personal Prayer, Parents and Family, Spiritual Experience, Faith Filled Adults and Call to Discipleship.
Education: December 6
th will be the Christmas party. Teacher meeting on December 10
th. Penance service will be on December 13
th. The second graders will be making their 1
st reconciliation at this time. The K-6 class on December 20
th will be pageant practice only. Fr. Olvera’s adult classes are still averaging 30-35 adults.
Worship: Penance service will be December 13 at 630pm. Christmas Eve Mass will be at 4:30pm with pageant at 4pm. Christmas Day Mass will be at 9am. New Year’s Day Mass will be at 9am. January 1
st is not a Holy Day of obligation this year.
Safety: Usher and Lector meeting after Mass on December 10
th.
Other Business: Wireless microphone is here and working for the projector system.
