Call to Order: President Mark Latorre at 7:00PM.
Opening Prayer: Led by Deacon Tim Birie
Approval of Minutes: Motion to approve June 2nd minutes as written. Motion passed.
Youth Group: Tammy Harrmann will be leading the Youth Group, assisted by Amy Mickley and Theresa Morris. Greg Henkel is leading the St. Vincent Youth group. The Y Disciple Program has been purchased jointly with St. Vincent. The program will run independently in each Parish. The program will begin with the new school year. Extensive discerning and prayer has taken place within the group to guide their path forward. Discussion took place regarding the potential visit to Philadelphia by Pope Francis next year.
The Squires are in still in need of a leader. Any Knight who is interested please contact the Parish Office.
Knights of Columbus: The Knights have completed their new Calendar. Installation of new officers will take place Monday August 18
th, followed by a pot luck dinner. The first Fish Fry this fall will be Friday September 19
th. The first Pancake Breakfast will be Sunday September 21
st.
Parish Council of Catholic Women: There will be a scheduling meeting August 5
th. The Harvest Auction will be September 22
nd at 7:00PM.
Deanery Report: The next meeting will be in September at St. Vincent’s. Bobbie Thomas and Tammy Harrmann had a meeting with the Bishop that was very productive. Discussion took place regarding the formation of a St. Luke Library and staffing, etc. Location and possible use of the Rectory was also reviewed. Deacon Tim offered materials from St. Vincent as needed.
The Rectory at St. Luke’s will continue to be maintained, cleaned regularly and kept functioning. Ways to accomplish that objective were reviewed and discussed. Marcia and George Durbin volunteered to oversee the Rectory on an ongoing basis to ensure there were no issues with the building. Additional discussion took place on how the Rectory can be used by the Parish. There was a motion made and passed to allocate money to address three projects; planting and dirt leveling at the Picnic Pavilion, stump removal and planting of grass where the apple tree stood, maintenance of the Rectory on the Father Snoke Drive side of the house. St. Luke Cemetery maintenance was discussed. Church building repair and maintenance was reviewed. Additional bids are being sought.
Finance and Administration: No report.
Community Life: The Festival was successful, approximately 400 people were served dinner.
Social Concerns: Jerry Freewalt will be speaking at the Vocations Club meeting at St. Leonard’s, Heath on Tuesday August 12
th. The problem of Human Trafficking is a growing issue, awareness of this problem was discussed. Cleveland and Akron are identified as areas where this issue is growing. Geographically, cities where interstate highways intersect provide routes for this growing problem.
Education Report: This year’s PSR classes will be on Wednesday night. Books have been ordered. Volunteers are needed to teach classes. Anyone interested please contact the Parish office or contact Tom Harrmann. Three new Altar Servers were trained at Deacon Tim’s recent training session.
Discussion took place regarding training and communication with the Eucharistic Ministers and Ushers. Further information will be forthcoming.
Old Business:
The results of this year’s Parish Festival were discussed. The Council would like to thank Beth Durbin and Dave Rashley for chairing this year’s Festival. Our thanks to all that supported this event. A detailed bulletin insert will provide details.
The St. Luke’s website is now live. The Council wished to thank Tom Harrmann for all his work to get this site operational. There is a wide variety of information regarding the Parish available. There are also many links on the site that can be used to support our journey in the Catholic Faith. The site address is: http://www.stlukedanvilleoh.org. Thank you again Tom, well done!
Discussion took place regarding the use of the collection boxes in the Church.
The St. Joseph statue is now in place at the front of the Church. The Council wishes to thank Judy Hedge for the outstanding work that was done to restore and repaint St. Joseph. Your time and talent to accomplish this restoration is recognized and greatly appreciated, thank you Judy!
