YOUTH REPORT: The Parent Meeting and PotLuck Dinner with Games is September 15, 2019. Cedar Point registrations were mailed out this week – must be returned with forms and $15.00 fee no later than September 15th. The Life Teen event is scheduled for Saturday, September 28th. Youth Group classes will start October 6th (6-7:30pm).
KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS: The planning meeting for 2019-2020 event calendar was completed. August 19th: Joint Council 910 & 847 Officer Installation took place at St. Luke. A Mass, celebrated by Father Blubaugh, was followed by the Installation officiated by District Deputy David Bogner. The event was celebrated with a potluck dinner.
Squires: There is a letter circulating for the great need for Squires.
Support Our Seminarians: Our thanks for the continuing generosity of St. Luke’s Parish, the August Support our Seminarian collection was $169.25. September was 318.47. Thank You!
PARISH COUNCIL OF CATHOLIC WOMEN: The new calendar has been completed. The meeting scheduled for September 17th at the Winery has been cancelled and re-scheduled for September 23rd. October 22nd is the Chalk Party. There have been discussions for a Daddy-Daughter Dance this year.
DEANERY REPORT: Bobbie Thomas has given her verbal resignation as the Deanery Chair. Tammy Harrmann was appointed to the position. The next Deanery Meeting is in November in Granville.
MAINTENANCE: The Rectory basement has been cleaned out. Several items have been painted. The SimpliSafe system was removed and returned. Ralston Art Memorial will be making monthly repairs to tombstones. The Backflow System was repaired. The Bell System was inspected. A proposal for an awning for the North Church door has been voted on and approved. **The Maintenance Committee is seeking an extension ladder – must be 18’ in length – for donation. **
The 2020 Renovations Committee Keith Mickley was appointed as Co-Chair. No new definite decisions have been made.
COMMUNITY LIFE: The Council Party was August 24th. On October 17th , Barb Smith is going to have a Marriage Dinner to discuss possible future plans for a Marriage Program. The Turkey Dinner will be November 3rd.
SOCIAL CONCERNS: September is Suicide Prevention Month. The 9th Annual Suicide Prevention Walk is being held on September 12th at Ariel Foundation Park Community Pavilion from 6-8:30pm. Registration starts at 5pm and the event will kick off at 6pm. “Understanding the Church’s Teachings on Peace and Justice” will be held on September 24th at 7pm. Jerry Freewalt, Director of the Diocesan office for Social Concerns, will present an overview of Catholic Social Teachings, provide examples of the Church’s work living out this important message, and other practical resources. It is hosted by the St. James the Less Social Concerns Committee at St. James the Less Church Ministry Center, 1628 Oakland Park Ave, Columbus.
September 23rd – November 3rd is 40 Days for Life. Faithful Believers are praying that this effort will mark the beginning of the end of abortion in America. This prayerful vigil will take place at an Abortion Facility in Columbus. Participants are asked to volunteer for one-hour shifts and sign a statement of peace. It will be held at St. Francis De Sales High School, 4212 Karl Rd. Columbus. 100% of the proceeds go to support persons living in poverty in our diocese. There is a registration/pledge form at the Social Concerns website. Breakfast with the Bishop is this week at The Renaissance Hotel in Columbus.
EDUCATION: The Teacher Meeting is September 4th at 6:30pm. The Parent Meeting is September 11th at 6:30pm. PSR beings September 18th (6:30-7:30pm)
Confirmation – The Parent Meeting was completed on August 25th. Confirmation Classes begin September 8th (6-7:30pm). Attendance Mass begins September 7th & 8th – Sign-In Sheets are at the back of the Church.
BEREAVEMENT: Several deaths have occurred in our Parish in the recent month(s). Other deaths, where a relationship to the Parish exists, have also occurred. Please keep those families in your prayers. Lynn Miller has completed all pending orders for Memory Bears, and they have been delivered. Plans are underway for this year’s Memorial Gathering, which is scheduled for December 6th. The Ministry has received a sweet note of appreciation – what a blessing to know that such a small act can mean so much! The Ministry is so thankful for the support it has received.
WORSHIP: Catechetical Sunday is September 15th. We will have a new Deacon for (1) Pastoral Year. His name is Gordon Mott. The Priest Convocation is September 30th thru October 3rd. No Daily Masses will occur that week.
SAFETY: A Quote for a professional security system was received, voted on, and approved. The Safety Committee will be moving forward with having it installed.
FINANCE: No new report.
New Business: A 2020 Parish Festival date-change was voted on and approved. The new date will be JUNE 13th instead of in July.
Shelby Mickley was appointed as the Respect Life Coordinator.
