Parish Council Minutes March 7, 2017
Present: Father Hammond, Marcia Durbin, Tom Harrmann, Don Hawk, John Higgins, Don Horn, Sheryl Mickley, Eric Morris, and Dave Rashley
Excused: Steve Bratton, Marie Holland, Amy Mickley, Keith Miller, and Bobbie Thomas
Approval of Minutes: Approved as written
Youth Report: Father Hammond reported that Youth group received permission to see the movie “The Shack” with a follow up discussion to occur with Father Hammond.
Knights of Columbus: Knight of the Month
: Mark Fongheiser. Mark is the newest Knight to join Council #910 but has been active in the Squires for several years. Mark has been Chief Squire for Circle 3676 for two years and State Chief Squire for one year. In addition to the Squires Mark is active with the St. Luke Men’s choir and is also a cantor. Mark, thank you for your leadership with The Squires and welcome to Council 910! Family of the Month
: Matt and Jamie Hilberg. Matt has been a Knight since 2016 and has already gotten very involved supporting the Fish Fry’s and Pancake Breakfasts. In addition he helps as needed during mass as an usher and with the Pennies for Heaven Collection. Jaime is active at St. Luke’s as a lector and cantor. She also attended ALPHA and is involved with PSR. Joey and Megan are both altar servers. The Hilberg family is very busy supporting St. Luke’s in several ministries. Congratulations!
2017 K of C raffle tickets are on sale. Please contact any Knight if you are interested in purchasing one. They are also for sale through the Youth Group and at Fish Fries and Pancake Breakfasts.
The 2017 Council 910 Membership Drive is underway. Any man interested in joining should contact any Knight or the Parish Office.
2017 Calendar and upcoming events:
Starting March 3rd there will be Fish Fries each Friday during lent.
Squires:
Attended State Spiritual Retreat in Logan last weekend, included Mass and confession.
February 26th did a Team building session playing Laser Tag in Wooster.
At the pancake breakfast on February 19th, the Squires raised $50.00 at a bake sale.
Parish Council of Catholic Women: Valentine dance went great! Next meeting March 19
th with eating healthy and exercise with Ashley Didinger.
Deanery Report: February 11
th meeting opened with Bishop Campbell prayer and commissioning of new officers. Social Concerns office is offering assistance with family addiction issues. Contact Jerry Freewalt at 614-221-5891. Diocese of Catholic Women will sponsor their annual silent retreat at St. Theresa Retreat Center March 31
st at noon to April 2.The first Mother Theresa awards of charity will be presented August 27, 2017. Current concern of the diocese is administering to current immigrants (approx. 20,000 in Columbus). Bishop Campbell will be available for question/answer period on Monday, March 13
th from 7pm to 9pm at St Francis Church in Newark
Maintenance: Handrails are up outside of restrooms. Church side door is finished and will be installed soon.
Finance & Administration: Remains in good standing
Community Life: World Marriage Weekend was celebrated during February 11th and 12
th Masses honoring married couples of 50 years or more with vows read by all married couples. Lenten Retreat “Forgiven” is being held at St. Luke’s parish on Monday nights with soup supper for next 5 weeks. Approximately 70 attended on Monday, March 6
th. Fr. Homer Blubaugh will speak at the ADAM Lenten service at St. Luke on Good Friday. Please watch the bulletin for upcoming events during the Lenten season
Social Concerns: Suicide is a major public health issue across the nation. Ohio loses between 1,200 and 1,500 citizens to suicide each year. If you are feelings depressed with thoughts of suicide or know of anyone struggling with depression or mental illness, resources are available in Knox County. Please contact the Knox County Suicide Prevention Coalition at 740-397-3333 Ext. #1, National Alliance of Mental Illness (NAMI) 740-397-3088, or the Family Life Counseling & Psychiatric Services 1-419-774-9969 to schedule an appointment in the Danville Sanctuary Community Action.
CRS Rice Bowls are available both through the PSR program and in the church near entrances during the Lenten season. Father Vince spoke specifically during Ash Wednesday to the practice of almsgiving during this season. For questions regarding Catholic Relief Services “Rice Bowls” please feel free to contact Tom Harrmann or Sheryl Mickley.
Education: Reconciliation Service will be March 22 at 6:30pm. Holy Week, April 9-15, there will be
no PSR classes. Need participants for living stations on Good Friday. First Holy Communion is Sunday April 30 at the 10am Mass. May 3
rd is May Crowning and Closing ceremony.
Worship: Penance Service is March 22

Safety: First Aid Refresher and AED training March 26
th after Mass
Old Business: Council approved the purchase and installation of a wireless overhead projection system for the community center. Concerns in regards to sports taking place on Wednesday night (Family night/Church night) with new league next year were discussed. Father Hammond as well as other ADAM ministers have constructed letters to send to area school districts. Community members can also contact school districts as well with individual family concerns.
