Parish Council Minutes July 11, 2016

Meeting called to order: Don Hawk
Approval of Minutes: Motion to approve June minutes as written.
Youth Report: There were 15 youth who helped with the kids’ games at the festival. The youth will have an outing on July 20
th to Mohican Aerial Park for member the past year. The new freshman will start attending in August. Several of the Adult leaders will be going to training in Cleveland in August.
Knights of Columbus: Pennies for Heaven: Council #910 would like to extend our thanks and appreciation to the St. Luke Parish for your very generous donations to the Pennies for Heaven Program. Your contributions help Seminarians support themselves during their journey to Priesthood. St. Luke donated $1786.79 over the last 12 months. Thank you so much for your generosity.
The June Knight of the Month:Father Homer Blubaugh - The Knights wish to recognize and congratulate Father Homer, the June Knight of the Month. Father Blubaugh, Chaplain for Council #910, is tireless in his support of the Knox-Licking Consortium, Knights of Columbus, as well as parishes outside of the consortium. In addition, Father is very generous with his time with Parishioners, visiting the sick and confined, always with a smile, selfless in his work with people. Our thanks and gratitude is extended to Father Blubaugh, the June Knight of the Month.
The June Family of the Month: Eric and Patti Winterhalter - The Knights wish to congratulate and recognize Eric and Patti Winterhalter as the June family of the month. Eric, a member of Council #910 for over 30 years, and his wife of over 40 years, Patti, are always generous with their time and support of St. Luke Parish. Patti was a PSR teacher and currently is active as a Cantor as well as singing in the Guitar Group at Mass. Eric is currently an usher, helping at Mass wherever needed. Our thanks and recognition are extended to Eric and Patti, the June Family of the Month.
Squires: At the recently held State Convention Mark Fongheiser was named State Chief Squire and Joseph Hedge was named State Marshall Squire. A recruitment planning meeting was held on July 10
th. Further planning will take place next weekend. Plans would be to have the Investiture of new members in conjunction with the State Basketball Tournament that Danville will be hosting in September. Congratulations to Mark and Joseph!
Parish Council of Catholic Women: No meeting, but did have painting party in June. Had bloodmobile June 20
th and the goal for donations was met. Meetings will start in September. Will do Ladies Night Out again this year.
Deanery Report: At the past meeting Bishop Campbell talked about parishes not being clubs. He also spoke about the importance of stewardship and that its not just monetary. Bishop Campbell announced the theme for this year is Family Evangelization.
Maintenance: Various works continue around the parish. Parking lot cracks will be filled in the fall. Recovering of asbestos in rectory and church basement will begin soon. We are still working on estimates regarding the work to be done on the understructure of the church. We will be getting a bid for removal of the two Ash trees.
Finance & Administration: BAA is over goal at over $40,000.
Community Life: No report
Social Concerns: A free drug awareness, prevention and recovery meeting will be held July 19 at 6:30pm with the Mount Vernon Municipal Court Probation Department in partnership with Elks Lodge 140. Walk 24 in 24 for Arms of an Angel will be August 12-14.
Education: Confirmation with Bishop Campbell went well. The altar servers will be given the opportunity to go to Cedar Point on July 22, 2016. PSR will begin September 14, 2016 with opening Mass. Registration information will be in back of church few weeks before PSR begins. Catechetical Sunday will be September 18
th with a blessing for teachers, aides and RCIA at both Masses.
Worship: Mission Appeal will be held August 6-7 with the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur .
Safety: Finalizing all the plans, then will get them all into writing.
Kitchen Appliance committee shared what they have been checking into and concerns they have regarding everything fitting into place. Will continue to move forward to make final decisions and get with Fr. Hammond for final approval.
Festival: No final numbers available at this time. Will get them finalized by next meeting.
Next Meeting: Monday, September 12 at 6:30pm
Annual Picnic will be Sunday, August 7th at 5pm.
