Parish Council Minutes February 9, 2017
Present: Father Hammond, Dave Rashley, Keith Miller, Don Hawk, John Higgins, Tom Harrmann, Bobbi Thomas, Amy Mickley, Marie Holland, Eric Morris, Sheryl Mickley, Don Horn, Marcia Durbin and Steve Bratton
Approval of Minutes: Approved as written
Youth Report: The Youth helped with the ministry party in January and will be helping with the Valentine dinner/dance February 11
th. We will be sending Valentines to parishioners in nursing homes and the shut ins. The next series we are starting is moral living and human happiness. Thank you to all that donated for the Right to Life trip. We had 14 youth plus others for a total of 32 people. Attended the Mass at the Basilica on Thursday, Friday attended the Youth Rally and Mass, then made the 1.5 mile march.
Knights Of Columbus: Knight of the Month: Andre Dessert, currently on active duty in the US Army. We thank Andre for his service. Andre, a Fourth Degree Knight, demonstrates a strong Faith in God and love of the Catholic religion, living and sharing these principles in his everyday life. He excelled in academics while in school, graduated with honors from his Army training at Fort Sill, today is stationed in Korea as a Crypto Linguist. When home on leave still active in men’s choir. Our thanks and congratulations to Andre, February Knight of the Month.
Family of the Month: Francis and Cora Durbin always family focused, lifetime members of St. Luke. Exemplify strong Catholic faith and family. Cora and Francis have been key members of the RCIA Team for years. Francis is a Eucharistic Minister. They both support their community in many ways, delivering hot meals is just one example. They are also there for parishioners and community members at funerals, when support and understanding is important. We wish to thank and congratulate Cora and Francis Durbin, February Family of the Month.
Free Throw Contest: Was held January 28
th, had 16 participants. Winners will move to the Regional Championship March 4
th in Columbus.
2017 Calendar and upcoming events:
Pancake Breakfast February 12th
Fish Fry February 17th and 24th.
Starting March 3rd there will be Fish Fries each Friday during Lent
Father Son Banquet February 19
th after 10:00AM mass
Squires: The Squires continue to focus on new members for their Circle; membership drive in January. Bake sale at Pancake Breakfast February 12
th.
Parish Council of Catholic Women: Jazzy January was held on January 22
nd. Went great; had 24 vendors. Wine and Creative Design painting had 15 ladies. Line dancing was February 5 with 10 ladies present. Had a fun time with both events. Valentine dinner/dance will be February 11
th; tickets are sold out. Will serve the Father Son Banquet on February 19
th. Next meeting will be March 19
th exercise and healthy living with Ashley.
Deanery Report: No report; next meeting is March. Meeting with the Bishop is Saturday February 11
th.
Maintenance: Nothing new to report at this time.
Finance & Administration: Thank you to the parishioners for continued support. We couldn’t have done all the projects to maintain the facilities without all the wonderful support.
Community Life: Judy Hedge is finished with the statues. Marriage Weekend is February 11-12
th. Will honor couples married 50 years and longer. All married couples will renew vows.
Social Concerns: Right to Life March was good. Had 24 people on the bus from St. Luke. February 23
rd at Danville Schools will be the
Hidden in Plain Sight. It helps parents know signs to look for in your kids’ room for possible drugs.
Education: Class time for remainder of the year will be 1 hour, 6:30-7:30pm. No class the week of Holy Week. January 25, 2017 was First Reconciliation for 2
nd grade. First Communion will be April 30
th at the 10am Mass.
Worship: Ash Wednesday is March 1
st with Masses at 11am and 7pm at St. Luke. Penance Service will be March 22
nd at 6:30pm at St. Luke’s and March 21
st at 6:30pm at St. Vincent. Seder meal will be April 9
th. Good Friday Service will be at 3pm, and Living Stations that evening around 8:30pm.
Safety: Will have a First Aid refresher and AED training sometime in March.
Other Business: Voted to go forward with the wireless overhead projection system for the center. This will help with different programs done in the center.
