Parish Council Minutes October 5, 2020 – Via Zoom PRESENT: Father Hammond, Roger Durbin, Marcia Durbin, Barb McComb, Sheryl Mickley, Joe Tapocsi, Shelby Mickley, Dave Rashley, Chris Mehringer-Smith, Bill Durbin, Marie Mosher, Ed Gardner, Keith Mickley. EXCUSED: Tammy Harrmann APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Approved as written.
EDUCATION:Youth Group – The Youth Group is working with Damascus and Greg Henkel through St. Vincent. The sessions are scheduled for October 11, October 25, November 8, November 22, and December 6 from 6pm to 8pm in the St. Vincent cafeteria. Middle School Youth Group - Damascus is having two sessions at St. Luke on October 18 and November 15 from 6pm to 8pm. PSR & Education - K-6th grade began on 9/23/20 (Wednesday nights from 6:30pm to 7:30pm). 7th/8th Grade began 9/24/20 (Thursday nights from 6:30pm to 7:30pm). (Eight children have requested books and are being taught at home by parents due to COVID 19).
KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS: Plans are underway to restart Fish Fries in January. They will be carry-out. Our Annual Cemetery Mass will take place on October 24 at 2pm. In the event of inclement weather Mass will take place at St. Luke’s Church. Council 910 is now part of the Kroger Community Awards Program. The program makes Fundraising easy by donating to local organizations on the shopping you do every day. More information will be coming with the program details. Support our Seminarians: Collection for September was $172.84 – Thank You! The October 3rd Degree meeting will be October 19. Squires: No new report.
PARISH COUNCIL OF CATHOLIC WOMEN: No meetings have been held yet. We will have an officers meeting this week to try and start Calendar Planning. The Parish does have a bus to the 40 Days of Life March – the Council is trying to get a date before November.
DEANERY: No new report.
MAINTENANCE: The microphone was moved to choir loft. The new sound system is up and running well. The Mary and Joseph statues were moved. The side door was repainted, and the front security light was repaired. The 2020 Renovations Committee: The Fire Extinguisher was installed next to the AED. The Fr. Lamy statue was installed, as well as some remaining portraits.
COMMUNITY LIFE: The Turkey Dinner was approved to been done as carryout-style on November 1. The committee has been in contact with the Health Department. We will be doing the Christmas baskets but will have to call people to help.
SOCIAL CONCERNS: November 3 is Election Day, and the Catholic Church believes that voting is a moral obligation. Please vote and let your voice be heard. The 2020 Women’s Conference has been moved to October 23, 2021.
RESPECT LIFE: The 40 Days of Life continues to November 1. On October 25, Bishop Brennan will be celebrating a Respect Life Mass and will preach to how we are called to help those in need and build a culture of life. There will be a peaceful prayer vigil at an Abortion Clinic in Columbus – to participate, you are asked to volunteer for a one-hour shift and sign a statement of peace. The location is: The Planned Parenthood Surgical Clinic, 3255 Main St., Columbus. BEREAVEMENT: Kimberly Ann Tobias, daughter of Bill and Patricia, passed away September 25. Deacon Tim officiated the Memorial Service at Roberts Funeral Home on October 1. Lisa Brazzell, the daughter of Joy and Bob Blubaugh, passed away October 5. Please remember to keep these families in your prayers during this difficult time. The Memorial Gathering for 2020 has been cancelled and will be rescheduled for next year. Letters will be sent notifying those affected. A Zoom meeting with members of the Bereavement Ministry will be arranged toward the end of October to review additions and changes to the ministry.
WORSHIP: There will be a Rural Community Mass at St. Luke soon – date is TBD. It will be streamed online. The Church is still looking into opening some limited Adoration times, as well as considering “At-Home Adoration” times as a new possibility. The 2020 Men’s Conference is still scheduled to take place but will be virtual.
SAFETY: Currently we are streaming 5pm and 10am Mass. We are also simulcasting to the Center for 10am Mass. Ushers: There will be an Ushers Zoom meeting on Wednesday October 7 at 6:30pm this week. Due to weather changes we will start closing the side door as needed.
FINANCE: All is well. The Bishop’s Annual Appeal goal was met, Thank you! The committee is looking into Endowment Funds for the Church.
Miscellaneous Notes: The Parish Council is in need of 3 new members for January 2021! There are forms in the Parish Office. Please let us know of any nominees/candidates!
