YOUTH REPORT: The March series is called “The Church” which reviews things in and around the Church. The Live Stations of the Cross will be on April 19
th. The Youth Group will be assisting with a fundraiser for the homeless in Knox County. Graduation Mass is May 26
th.
KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS: Knight of the Month: Recently transferring from Church of the Resurrection in New Albany, Mark Steele is the February Knight of the Month. He has been a member of the K of C for 18 years. A Fourth Degree Knight, he is a past Grand Knight and Faithful Navigator. He is a Eucharistic Minister and has been the Lead Sacristan since 2004. Mark was one of the founding members of St. Gabriel Radio and was the emissary to Church of the Resurrection for St. Gabriel. Mark’s favorite hobby is his membership in SASS, a group of named Cowboys that actively participate in World Class shooting matches with guns and replicas dating circa 1898. Mark, congratulations as Knight of the Month and welcome to St. Luke’s, Council 910 and Assembly 2970!
Family of the Month: The February Family of the Month is Ed and Becky Gardner. Ed is a Fourth Degree Knight, Faithful Treasurer and an active member of the Catholic Christian Crusaders. Ed heads our annual Measure Up Program. He can always be seen collecting money at Fish Fries and pancake breakfasts. Becky loves to spend time with her 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Ed and Becky have a trained therapy dog, Lani Ray. Becky takes Lani to Knox Community Hospital every Wednesday for 2 hours. She also visits The Mount Vernon Rehabilitation Facility and The Laurels. She is active at North Bend Brethren Church, volunteering to drive friends and family to doctor appointments. Ed and Becky are both committed to helping and serving the needs of others, a pillar of a Knights of Columbus Family. Congratulations Ed and Becky!

Squires: The annual spiritual retreat and corn hole tournament is coming up on the weekend of March 16-17.
Last year's event was lots of fun and a great success. It is being hosted by the Squires at St. John's parish in Logan.

PARISH COUNCIL OF CATHOLIC WOMEN: The first self-defense class was held on March 3
rd with 30 people attending. It was a great class, and is still open and free to all, every Sunday in March from 1:30-3:30pm at the Devil Dome. Call Marcia Durbin with any questions. There will be a painting party March 25
th at 6:00pm. Sign up is online or with Marcia. There is a Benefit Dinner for Bobbi & Louie Mickley on April 6
th. PCCW will be providing the meal.
DEANERY REPORT: No new report.
MAINTENANCE: The committee is continuing to get quotes for the floor repair in the Church but this will most likely not be happening until the 2020 Restoration. Hydraulic door closers were ordered for the Men’s and Women’s restrooms at the Center. Some small Sacristy cleaning was done. A new hand rail (outside) is being looked i
nto for the Center.
The 2020 Renovations Committee has begun discussing painting, flooring, and pews as mentioned before as their first main scope of priorities. NO decisions have been made yet – Input from the Parish will be sought sometime in the future.
COMMUNITY LIFE: The Seder Meal is being planned. The Starting Point Annual Banquet is April 11
th and 12
th. Please call Marcia if you would like to attend. The committee will be meeting with Father Olvera and Father Hammond for the 200
th Anniversary.
SOCIAL CONCERNS: March is Developmental Disabilities month. A “Sacraments for Persons with Disabilities” workshop for parents, teachers, and Parish staff will be on Wednesday March 13
th from 7-8:30pm at St. Elizabeth Church, 6077 Sharon Woods Blvd in Columbus. It will feature Esther Garcia of the National Catholic Partnership on Disability, and Andrew Burson of the Diocesan Office of Divine Worship. Join us for a conversation about preparation and celebration of the sacraments of persons with disabilities. There is no charge, but an RSVP would be appreciated. March is also Women’s History Month. Soroptimist International of Mt. Vernon and Knox County will hold their Spring Style Show and Luncheon on April 6
th at the Gallagher Center on Gambier Road. Doors open at 11am. The Style Show highlights local Knox County businesses featuring local models who showcase the latest in Spring fashion styles. Tickets can be purchased at Flowers for You, 22 E Gambier St. The focus of the organization is sex trafficking locally, statewide, and internationally. Local projects financially supported are: New Directions Domestic Violence Shelter, Project Delta, Hope Now, Christmas in July for Interchurch Social Services, and the Women’s Shelter at the Winter Sanctuary.
EDUCATION: There will be no class on March 27

rd is the Penance Service – Parents and their children are highly encouraged to attend. April 17
th is the Seder Meal for children and parents. April 28
th is the First Communion Mass for 2
nd graders. K-12 will be collecting monies for almsgiving to assist the homeless in Knox County. Personal hygiene items will be distributed, as well as food service and shelter items.
BEREAVEMENT: Philip Roach died February 9
th. He was the husband of Susan Roach, a member of St. Luke. The Memorial Service was held at Fischer Funeral Home. Mildred R. Smith, Dennis (Barb) Smith’s mother, died January 19
th. The list of follow-up cards have been revised. Easter cards are new, as well as Thanksgiving and Praying for You cards. Support for anyone in the Parish who has lost a parent has been added to the Ministry. If anyone is interested in donating to the Bereavement Ministry, please write a check to the church, with it marked for the Ministry. The Ministry would like to thank the anonymous donations they have received thus far!
WORSHIP: April 3
rd is the Lenten Penance Service at 6:30pm. March 6
th is Ash Wednesday with Masses at 11:00am and 6:30pm. The new Bishop, Robert Brennan, has an Installation Date of March 29
th. April 28
th will be the First Communion Mass at 10am. The Stations of the Cross will be every Friday at 7:00pm, following the Fish Fry dinners. If you are at the Fish Fry, we encourage you to stay and come over to the Church afterward for the Stations!
SAFETY: Lawnmower Safety – A stick or toy can fly out of a lawnmower discharge chute as fast as 200 miles per hour. Always mow across slopes and inclines when using a walk-behind mower. Leather shoes should be warn while using a walk-behind mower. The most important thing to do before doing any service work on a mower is disconnecting the spark plug. One gallon of gasoline combined with the correct amount of air is equal to 83 pounds of dynamite. Always be careful!
