Parish Council Minutes March 1, 2021 – 6:30pm – Via Zoom
PRESENT: Father Hammond, Linda Bratton, Bill Durbin, Marcia Durbin, John Fongheiser, Ed Gardner, Marie Holland, Barb McComb, Sheryl Mickley, Dave Rashley, Keith Mickley, Marie Mosher, Chris Mehringer-Smith, Frank Meravy EXCUSED: Tammy Harrmann. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Chris Mehringer-Smith made a motion to approve the minutes as written. Barb McComb seconded the motion. Motion was carried.
EDUCATION and YOUTH REPORT: PSR will reconvene on Wednesday, March 10 for all families that are comfortable returning. Father Hammond will follow up with the Bishop regarding Confirmation for students who were to be confirmed last spring.
KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS: The Knights of Columbus Fish Fries are going well. They will continue throughout Lent with two additional Fish Fries in April. The Knights have begun selling Super Bonanza tickets. The tickets are $5 and can be purchased from any Knight. Approximately 45 men attended the Catholic Men’s Conference virtually last weekend. The event was streamed live in the center.
PARISH COUNCIL OF CATHOLIC WOMEN: The PCCW has rented a 56-passenger bus to pray in front of the Planned Parenthood in Columbus on Saturday, March 20. Anyone interested in participating should contact the Parish office.
COMMUNITY LIFE: COVID-19 has limited current events. At this time, the Seder meal will not occur. The pictorial directory has also been placed on hold at this time.
DEANERY: No Meeting since the start of COVID-19.
MAINTENANCE: Bill Durbin reported that the Blubaugh plaque was removed from the Church Sacristy and will be placed on display for the anniversary celebration. Molding has been installed in the choir loft. New lights and receptacles were also installed. The dishwasher was de-limed, and a new entry mat was placed in front of the Church. A new cable was also installed in preparation for updates to the current Wi-Fi system.
SOCIAL CONCERNS: March is Developmental Disabilities Month. All persons with disabilities have a gift to contribute to the whole Church. When persons with disabilities are embraced and welcomed and invited to participate fully in all aspects of the parish community life, the Body of Christ is more complete. For resources available for individuals, families, and parishes to work towards the goal of full participation, check the website www.ColumbusCatholic.org/persons-with-disabilities. April 2, 2021, Good Friday, Walking Stations of the Cross: Due to COVID-19 they are still working on the details. At this point a virtual Walking Stations of the Cross is being planned. RESPECT LIFE: 40 Days for Life is active during this time. You are encouraged to pray for life. Individuals can sign up for times to pray outside of the Planned Parenthood Surgical Center in Columbus. The PCCW has rented a 56-passenger bus to pray outside the abortion facility in Columbus. BEREAVEMENT: There is one death from the parish to report. Martha Louise (Mickley) Stutz, mother of Aaron (Jennifer) Stutz, Eric (Brenda) Stutz, Jeff (Janet) Stutz and Greg (Diane) Stutz; sister of Leo (Teresa) Mickley; sister-in-law of Barb and Joanna Mickley passed away February 13, 2021. Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Luke, Friday February 19, 2021 followed by burial at St. Luke Cemetery. Additionally, one non-member has passed away. Donald Lloyd Malcuit, the brother of Bea Colopy and uncle of Rochelle Adam, died February 2, 2021. Please remember to keep these families in prayer during this difficult time. Approximately 40 people have now expressed interest in attending this year’s Memorial Gathering. Invitations will be sent in October for this event. We have received an extremely generous donation from one of our parish family members to help fund and support our ministry. For this we are truly grateful.
WORSHIP: Father Hammond will be scheduling an evening for Confessions at St. Luke. This will occur before Easter and will follow the same guidelines as before Christmas.
SAFETY: The Ushers will be meeting via zoom to discuss how things are going and to determine if any changes are needed moving forward. A special ‘thank you’ to Barb McComb for all of her time ushering Funeral Masses and for creating an instructional booklet for ushering. Schmidt continues to work on the WI-FI in the center. Issues arose during a Funeral Mass due to slow internet speed. An extender and access point have been installed in order to have high-speed internet capabilities in the Center. A special thank you to all who have been involved in this process. Steve Butcher has been instrumental in supporting this venture. Compensation for his time is being considered.
FINANCE: The January report looks good and we are operating in the black. The budget for January was on track with our expenses.

Linda Bratton, Respect for Life; John Fongheiser, Maintenance and Safety; Marie Holland, Community Life and Education. Dave Rashley received a letter from a Parishioner. The letter was read aloud at the meeting. The Prayer Before the Tabernacle on Tuesday evening has evolved. Parishioners are participating in Stations of the Cross as well as the Rosary during this time. Last week, 11 people were in attendance. All are welcome to join!
