Lent Begins...Ash Wednesday, February 26, marks the beginning of Lent.
The following fast and abstinence regulations are observed. Abstinence from meat is observed on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, and all the Fridays of Lent by all Catholics 14 years and older. Fasting is observed on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday by all Catholics who are 18 years of age but not yet 59. Those bound by this rule may take only one full meal. Two smaller meals are permitted as necessary to maintain strength according to one’s needs. Eating solid foods between meals is not permitted.
The annual Lenten season has a double character, namely, to prepare both catechumens and faithful to celebrate the paschal mystery. The catechumens, both with the rite of election and scrutinies, and by catechesis, are prepared for the celebration of the sacraments of Christian initiation; the faithful, ever more attentive to the word of God and prayer, prepare themselves by penance for the renewal of their baptismal promises.
Lenten Materials: Various Lenten materials including the Magnificat Lenten Companion and Catholic Relief Services Rice Bowls will be available in Church for you to take home.
The PSR, Youth Group, and Confirmation class would like to ask the parish to join them in participating in a very important part of the Lenten season, "almsgiving." We are collecting both monetary and food (non-perishable items) as donations for a family in our church. This family has had a loved one in the hospital for over four months that has just come home but will require weekly trips to specialist for many months to come. If you would like to participate please drop off all monetary and/or non-perishable items—canned goods, juice, box items, detergent, toilet paper, paper towels, etc. to the office. All monies collected will go towards gift certificates (gas and food). Please contact Sheryl Mickley 740-599-6237 if you need more information.
Ash Wednesday, February 26, Masses will be at 11:00am and 6:30pm, with distribution of Blessed Ashes at both Masses. There will be no PSR classes so that parents may bring their children to Mass.
