Respect Life: The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops is asking us to stand with moms in need. As our nation awaits the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, we join together in prayer and expectant hope that states will again be able to protect women and children from the injustice of abortion. As we affirm the value of every human life, we welcome the possibility of saving countless unborn children as well as sparing women and families the pain of abortion. The Church consistently bears witness in word and deed to the beauty and dignity of every human life–including both mother and child. We have a local organization that stands with moms in need called Starting Point. If you picked up a baby bottle, please return it with your donation or a donation may be put in the collection basket in an envelope marked Starting Point.
Festival Report: Six members of the Parish Festival Committee met on Sunday, June 5 at 9am in the center. We discussed the details of the live and silent auctions and advertising posters that will be made and distributed throughout our community. A festival announcement and an insert for possible auction items will be in next week’s bulletin. Also, a letter about the festival and raffle tickets will be sent out to all parishioners in the upcoming week. Sign-up sheets for auction items and for festival jobs and dessert donations will be available for sign up beginning the weekend of June 18-19. The festival committee will meet again on Sunday June 19 at 9am in the center.
Bereavement: Since the last meeting of Parish Council, there is one parishioner’s death to report. Lillian Bratton, the mother of Charlie (Linda) Bratton and grandmother of Steven (Elizabeth) Bratton and Marie (Shane) Mosher, passed away May 20. Father Daniel Olvera celebrated the Mass of Christian Burial Friday, May 27 at St. Luke. Interment will take place at a later time. Please keep the Bratton family in prayer during this difficult time. Three additional donations have been made to the ministry in the past month. We are excited to welcome Brenda Arnold as a new member of the ministry. Last week a member of St. Vincent de Paul expressed to me her interest in being involved in the startup of a Bereavement Ministry at her church. She has heard of what we are doing here. We agreed that we would meet at a later date.
Worship: Confirmation Mass will be here at St. Luke. All are invited to attend this special Mass and to have the opportunity to meet our new bishop. There will be a mission appeal on June 18/19.
Real Presence/Real Future: You are strongly encouraged to participate in RP/RF. By going on our parish website, you can watch the video and then complete the survey which allows you to comment on the proposal. This second round of comments will end on June 30.
Safety: Dave Rashley has completed the final emergency plan for St. Luke. Our diocese has asked all churches to be prepared for possible violence in light of the upcoming Supreme Court decision which will be handed down this month. For your protection, the side door will now be locked as well as the back door.
