Respect Life: Bishop Fernandes praised the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling handed down on June 24. The court ruled in favor of the Mississippi law which bans abortions in almost all circumstances after an unborn baby’s heartbeat is detected. The court also overturned Roe v. Wade. As a result of this ruling, decisions on abortion laws will go back to individual states. In Ohio, abortion is now illegal after an unborn baby’s heartbeat is detected. Bishop Fernandes asked our diocese to continue to work to nurture Ohio families and to accept the responsibility of supporting mother and children and to fight for the right to life for every human, born and unborn.
Festival Report: Nine members of the Parish Festival Committee met on Sunday, July 10 at 9am in the center. Our festival is scheduled for Saturday, July 16. Good weather is predicted. We encourage you to come and to invite your family and friends. Many people have worked to make this event come together. Charlie and Linda wish to thank everyone who has contributed to this effort. We hope the festival will be an enjoyable time for our parish and for our community. Bereavement: Since the last meeting of Parish Council on June 6, 2022, no one from the parish has passed away. There is one death to report with connections to the parish, however. Doug Small, the son-in-law of Kay Waren, and a resident of McKinleyville CA, died July 1. No services will be held. Please keep the Small family in prayer during this difficult time. Additional donations have been made to the ministry in the past month for which we are grateful. Lynn Miller is working on design of a pattern which, when completed, will allow us to offer three different sizes of memorial bears. We hope to meet with Beth Robinson at St. Vincent de Paul at the end of the month to explore establishing a bereavement ministry there.
Worship: There will be a reception at St. Vincent de Paul to welcome our new parochial vicar, Fr. Brandimarti to our consortium. He will serve his first mass at St. Luke on Wednesday. Father Homer Blubaugh will turn 80 on July 31. There will be a reception for him following the 10am Mass that Sunday. Tyler Carter is currently helping at our parishes. He will be here until next month. In September, we will be hosting another seminarian. Real Presence/Real Future: 84 people completed the online survey. The information is now being reviewed and everything is on hold.
Safety: The code for entering the side door has been changed. Doors will continue to be locked for your protection until further notice.
Old Business: Beth Sapp has offered to make any clothing that is needed for the Infant of Prague.
New Business: A member of parish council asked about the possibility of adding a pad to the kneeler by the votive candle stand. There was a discussion about the need for guidelines for non-parishioners who have weddings at the church. Someone needs to be there to lock and unlock doors and the church needs to be available for confessions.
Next Meeting Date: Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2022, at 6:30pm via zoom. There will be no August meetingParish Council Minutes July 11, 2022, at 6:30pm - Via Zoom
