Parish Council Minutes December 7, 2020 – 7pm – Via Zoom
PRESENT: Father Hammond, Roger Durbin, Marcia Durbin, Barb McComb, Sheryl Mickley, Joe Tapocsi, Dave Rashley, Chris Mehringer-Smith, Bill Durbin, Marie Mosher, Ed Gardner, Keith Mickley, Frank Meravy EXCUSED:Tammy Harrmann, Shelby Mickley APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Approved as written.
EDUCATION: The Youth Group and PSR have been cancelled until January when we hope that Knox County will be out of the red. PSR teachers met and went caroling to the PSR families. They dropped off gifts and Advent crafts from the PCCW to each family.
KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS: Memorial Mass will be held December 13 at 4pm in the Church. Safety practices will be observed. A special meeting for Fish Fry planning was held on December 7 and a Drive-thru Fish Fry will be January 15 and January 29, 2021. Kroger’s first rebate check will be in February. Support our Seminarians: No report. Squires: No new report.
PARISH COUNCIL OF CATHOLIC WOMEN: No report.
DEANERY: The Deanery has not met since Covid-19 back in March. Fr. Hammond reported the deanery meetings are postponed until pandemic is under control.
MAINTENANCE: Roger Durbin reported lights above altar needed a switch replaced and is now working. Book rack is back in choir loft. Holes were patched and painted in the Sacristy. Hoses were winterized. Security light by office had wind damage and has been fixed. They will wait until better weather to place. The Bilco door was fixed and water seal applied. They are repairing the center tile floor between a couple rooms with tile that was in the basement. It matches well. Cleaned up votive candle rack. The hallway receptacles have been replaced. Thank you to Terry Klopcic, who has been volunteering his help on these projects. The 2020 Renovations Committee: Keith Mickley reported everything is pretty well done. The votive candle rack needs to be placed.
COMMUNITY LIFE: The Giving Tree ornaments have all been taken. They will pack baskets Sunday December 13.
SOCIAL CONCERNS: Nothing new, everything has been in the bulletin.
RESPECT LIFE: No report.
BEREAVEMENT: There are two deaths from the parish to report. Marilyn J. Arnold, the sister of Margie Samples and sister-in-law of Twila Colopy, passed away November 25. Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Luke, Saturday November 28, followed by burial at St. Luke Cemetery. Charles Durbin, the father of Chris (Mike) Petee died November 3. Private graveside service and burial was held at St. Luke Cemetery. A former member is now gone as well. Barbara J. Blanchard died November 25. Funeral Mass was held Tuesday, December 1 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Delaware. She is interred at St. Luke Cemetery.
Additionally, the following non-members have passed away. Jettie Lodema Ward, the mother of Linda (Tony) Mickley, died November 1, 2020. Funeral service was held November 5 at Bladensburg Church of Christ, with burial at Bladensburg Cemetery. Robert L (Bob) Colopy, the brother of Margie Samples and the late Marilyn Arnold, died November 19. Graveside service was conducted at St. Luke Cemetery on November 24. Please remember to keep these families in prayer during this difficult time. Bev at Trophies Unlimited is working on imprinting the memorial candle.
WORSHIP: There will be no Advent Penance Service. Father Hammond will look into an extra penance time on Wednesday. December 16. “I am praying for the Christmas Masses.”
SAFETY: The side door of the church has a new code. If audio is hard to hear let Ed Gardner or Dave Rashley know. The Loop portable was used by a parishioner this weekend. Thanks to all the ushers! There was a Zoom meeting with the ushers for any concerns or comments. All is good. However, we still need cleaners after 5 pm Mass onSaturday.
FINANCE: Father Hammond said all looks really good.
Old Business: Council nominations: We have three parishioners who have volunteered to serve on parish council. The council member made a motionnot to havea parish vote and it passed.
New Business: Duane Mickley, Deb Ridgway, and Amy McDonald are on the committee for the Raccoon Dinner in February. Sheryl Mickley will check and report back in January
