Bill Durbin made motion to approve minutes as amended. Marcia Durbin seconded the motion. Motion was carried. Education & Youth Group: Youth group begins Sunday, September 12, 6:30 – 7:30 pm with a pizza party and game night. Confirmation group also begins on Sunday, September 12, 6:30 – 7:30 pm. It will begin with a pizza party and then will break out into sessions for the evening. The parent meeting for Confirmation class will be October 3 at 6:00 pm. PSR begins Wednesday, September 22 at 6:30 – 7:30 pm. We will incorporate more music and crafts into the program. There were teacher meetings for Youth Group, Confirmation, and PSR for lead teachers in August. Registration and calendars were mailed out to parents in August. Sheryl will send reminders to groups of classes beginning four days prior to start. All classes will continue in person unless school closes due to COVID outbreak. Knights of Columbus: The chicken dinner on Sat. Aug. 28 was a sell-out. The K of C Council received recognition for Support Our Seminarians. Sunday, Sept. 26, Knights will participate in Adopt a Highway. There will be several October events including the first fish fry on Oct. 15, Cemetery Mass on Oct. 16 at 1:00, and Coats for Kids at the end of the month. Knights will also be selling football raffle tickets as in the past. Frank Meravy announced the K of C Volunteer of the Year: Barb McComb and the Knight of the Year: Dave Rashley. Parish Council of Catholic Women: The PCCW will be doing a painting of St. Luke for the 200th Anniversary on Sept. 21 from 6 -9pm at the center. Reservations are needed to participate. Community Life: Nov. 7 is the annual Turkey Dinner. This will probably be a drive thru. There will be a 200th Anniversary dinner following 4 pm Mass on Oct. 17 with Bishop Brennan. Everyone will be asked to bring a covered dish. Maintenance: The sign at St. Luke cemetery was painted. The maintenance committee hopes to work on the old section of the cemetery. The original map is missing; please contact Bill Durbin if you have information. The refurbished votive stand is now in church. An awning the same color as the side door awning will be installed above the sacristy door. The bulbs in the tall lights in the parking lot have been replaced and the poles have been painted. Some repairs have been done in the inside and outside of the center including repairing holes in the roof. Trees and bushes have been trimmed. Estimates are being obtained for resurfacing the entire center parking lot. Social Concerns: September is National Suicide Prevention Month. National Migration Week, which takes place September 20-26, is an opportunity for the Church to reflect on the circumstances confronting migrants. The week will conclude with the Vatican’s celebration of the World Day of Migrants and Refugees. Respect Life: Starting Point is planning their annual Prayer Walk. They will have eight different prayer stations set up along the Heart of Ohio & Kokosing Valley Trails on October 2nd from 4-6 pm. No plans are yet in place for participating in 40 Days for Life. USCCB reminds us that every life is worth living. The practice of assisted suicide is often the result of misguided mercy. Laws that permit assisted suicide, wrongly communicate the idea that, under difficult circumstances, some lives are not worth living. Sadly, this tragically false message will be heard not only by those with a terminal illness, but by any person struggling with the temptation to end his or her life. The week will conclude with the Vatican’s celebration of the World Day of Migrants and Refugees. Respect Life: Starting Point is planning their annual Prayer Walk. They will have eight different prayer stations set up along the Heart of Ohio & Kokosing Valley Trails on October 2nd from 4-6 pm. No plans are yet in place for participating in 40 Days for Life. USCCB reminds us that every life is worth living. The practice of assisted suicide is often the result of misguided mercy. Laws that permit assisted suicide, wrongly communicate the idea that, under difficult circumstances, some lives are not worth living. Sadly, this tragically false message will be heard not only by those with a terminal illness, but by any person struggling with the temptation to end his or her life. Bereavement: Since the last meeting of Parish Council on June 7, we have three deaths in our parish to report. Jim Puster, husband of Annette, passed away June 8. Fr. Blubaugh celebrated the Funeral Mass on June 12. Terrance (Terry) Lee Thomas, husband of Rebecca Ann, passed away June 26. Loretta Joy Blubaugh, wife of Bob, passed away July 26 and Fr. Blubaugh celebrated the Funeral Mass on July 30. Other deaths with parish connections are James Noah Tindall, the cousin of Carolyn Hallam, who passed away on July 17; Olwen Hedge, the mother of Mark (Judy) Hedge, who passed away in England on July 19; Karen Sue Morris, mother of Eric (Theresa) Morris who died August 22; and Phyllis Arnold, mother of George (Brenda) Arnold and Judy (Randy) Miller who passed away August 23. Please remember these families in your prayers during this difficult time. We received two donations to the ministry, for which we are most grateful. Invitations to the Memorial Gathering will be mailed this month, with an RSVP date of November 1. Worship: Our seminarian is not part of our diocese anymore. He will complete his formation for the priesthood in the Boston Archdiocese. Please keep him in your prayers. There will be two meeting on November 15 & 17 for Real Presence, Real Future. The meetings will be 6:30 -8:30 on Zoom. Your input is very important so please plan to participate in one of these two meetings. St. Luke has purchased a subscription for “Formed” which all members of St. Luke can use free of charge. This program is very informative about our Catholic faith and is very well done. Safety: The code on the side door has been changed. This is to ensure everyone’s safety. Hearing Loop: Ed Gardner reported on what is happening with the hearing loop. CCC had a booth at the First Friday event in Mt. Vernon. CCC members along with some spouses handed out religious items to evangelize our Catholic faith.
