EDUCATION: Youth Group and Confirmation are planning a trip to Columbus with parish community Sunday, March 29 for prayer vigil “40 Days of Life” – The beginning of the end of abortion. Youth Group: They are working on Life Night: Man-Made (Jesus’ plan to establish the Church). Confirmation Retreat will be Saturday, March 14, 2020 (Departing at 8:30am to 6:00pm). PSR: Classes are March 4, 11, & 18. Penance Service is on March 25, no PSR class. All the youth programs are contributing to Lent almsgiving this year in support of a Parish Family – students responding with donations of canned goods, non-perishable items, and monetary donations.

The Painting Night (Magnolia Tree in front of Church) was moved to March 31 at 6pm. On March 29, the PCCW is sponsoring a 56-passenger bus for the 40 Days of Life prayer vigil at the Abortion Clinic on Broad Street in Columbus. Confirmation Students and their sponsors are encouraged to attend as well as Youth Group students. We would love to have a full bus! The group would be happy to have a Clergy also. The bus is departing at 1:00pm. DEANERY REPORT: The next meeting is March 11.
MAINTENANCE: The committee built and installed an equipment shelf under the office table. Another Center table was repaired. Repaired office door issues. Several other doors in the Center were miscellaneously repaired as well. The Vestibule table and Cross were re-located for coffin access to Center. The dishwasher was de-limed in the kitchen. The Rectory porch gutter was repaired. The rose bushes were trimmed, and straw was laid. Lastly, the kitchen island cabinet doors were cleaned. The 2020 Renovations Committee: Things are still “on schedule.” Artwork, flooring, and pews are next to address. May 26 is the TENTATIVE finish date. There will be a possible walk-through scheduled in the near future for parishioners to view progress. Cassie Simpson will help you experience yoga and explain how it can impact mental health and wellness. “Your Body and Your Mind” will be held 11:30-1:30 at the Mount Vernon Library. Space is limited. To enroll, call 740-397-3088 or email: [email protected]. Also, on March 30, the NAMIKLC will celebrate Vincent Van Gogh’s Birthday and World Bipolar Day. There will be a movie at the Mt. Vernon Library at 7:30pm. On April 6th, the NAMI “Family to Family” class will begin. This class is for anyone with a family member who suffers from a mental illness. The program has been revised and shortened to 8 weeks. April 18th is the First Annual Stomp Out Stigma Walk. It will be held at Ariel Foundation Park from 10-12:30. There is a $15.00 entry fee. Pre-register by March 18 and receive a T-shirt by size. April 10 is Good Friday – Walking Stations of the Cross begins with an opening prayer at St. Joseph Cathedral, 212 E. Broad St., Columbus at 8:30am. Participants will process to locations throughout downtown Columbus to recognize Jesus Christ’s suffering and crucifixion, as well as to reflect on current areas of social concern. BEREAVEMENT: Jaqueline “Jackie” Myers Shackle passed away February 10. The Funeral Mass was held Wednesday February 19 at St. Luke. Irvin Craig Ward, brother of Linda Mickley, passed away February 27. Please keep these families in your prayers. Barb McComb is still working with a group at St. Vincent de Paul to help develop a Bereavement Ministry. The functional overview should be done for them for our scheduled meeting of March 19 (correction from March 20 in last month’s minutes). 2020 Memorial Gathering preparations; the committee was so pleased with the musical selections and what they added to the 2019 Memorial Gathering, that Barb McComb has asked Rochelle Adam if she would so the same for the 2020 gathering – she agreed.

Miscellaneous Notes: The 200th Anniversary Celebration Cont’d – Fr. Homer is writing a book on the Church’s history. On Ladies Nite this year, the Church will be handing out cake and mementos to commemorate the celebration. We are waiting on a 3rd quote for the new Sound System for the Church. A quote for the hearing aid users with T-Coils has been approved by the Council. There will be a class in the future (by the installing company) to inform parishioners of its use/operation.

BEREAVEMENT: Jaqueline “Jackie” Myers Shackle passed away February 10. The Funeral Mass was held Wednesday February 19 at St. Luke. Irvin Craig Ward, brother of Linda Mickley, passed away February 27. Please keep these families in your prayers. Barb McComb is still working with a group at St. Vincent de Paul to help develop a Bereavement Ministry. The functional overview should be done for them for our scheduled meeting of March 19 (correction from March 20 in last month’s minutes). 2020 Memorial Gathering preparations; the committee was so pleased with the musical selections and what they added to the 2019 Memorial Gathering, that Barb McComb has asked Rochelle Adam if she would so the same for the 2020 gathering – she agreed.
WORSHIP: The Penance Service is March 25. The Bishop is being contacted for the June 3 Confirmation.
SAFETY: The Coronavirus – use precaution just as you would for any virus. Wash your hands often, etc. Any questions regarding the virus, contact the Knox County Health Department. There is an issue with the computer connecting to the internet – Schmidt is taking care of this issue.
FINANCE: Father Hammond and the committee asks that Parishioners give generously to the Bishop’s Annual Appeal this year especially - to help replenish the Church’s monetary reserves due to the Renovations costs. All money over the B.A.A. goal comes back to St. Luke at 100%. Thank You!
Miscellaneous Notes: The 200th Anniversary Celebration Cont’d – Fr. Homer is writing a book on the Church’s history. On Ladies Nite this year, the Church will be handing out cake and mementos to commemorate the celebration. We are waiting on a 3rd quote for the new Sound System for the Church. A quote for the hearing aid users with T-Coils has been approved by the Council. There will be a class in the future (by the installing company) to inform parishioners of its use/operation.

EDUCATION: Youth Group and Confirmation are planning a trip to Columbus with parish community Sunday, March 29 for prayer vigil “40 Days of Life” – The beginning of the end of abortion. Youth Group: They are working on Life Night: Man-Made (Jesus’ plan to establish the Church). Confirmation Retreat will be Saturday, March 14, 2020 (Departing at 8:30am to 6:00pm). PSR: Classes are March 4, 11, & 18. Penance Service is on March 25, no PSR class. All the youth programs are contributing to Lent almsgiving this year in support of a Parish Family – students responding with donations of canned goods, non-perishable items, and monetary donations.
KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS: The February Family of the Month is the Louie Mickley Family. Louie and Bobbi Mickley and their family have always represented the essence of a Catholic Knights of Columbus Family. They have anexceptionalCatholic Faith, a spiritual loving core that is demonstrated with the support of St. Luke, Danville and Knox County Community. Louie, a Fourth Degree Knight, was dedicated to supporting The Knights of Columbus.Bobbi is a PSR teacher and the family supports St. Luke as a Cantor and servers. The children also assist with the Pancake Breakfasts. Council 910 recognizes, thanks and congratulates the February Family of the Month. Knight of the Month for February Knight of the Month is Jim Puster. Jim is a pastGrand Knight. He is dedicated to the Catholic Faith, St. Luke Church, the Knights of Columbus and the Danville Community. Along with his wife Annette, he is selfless in supporting the Knights, Community through Hot Meals, the Health Department, and the Church programs and Ministries. Our congratulations to the February Knight of the Month. Squires: We are still in need of Squires to participate in the Organization. The 2020 State Basketball Tournament will be sponsored by the Danville Squires on March 21. Upcoming events: Fish Fries are now every Friday 5-7pm throughout Lent. Pancake Breakfast, March 15th, 11am to noon. Bob Blubaugh will be starting the 2020 K of C Annual Essay Contest this week. If you have questions, please contact Bob Blubaugh. PARISH COUNCIL OF CATHOLIC WOMEN: The Valentine Dinner Dance went great – huge “Thank You” to everyone that helped set up! The Painting Night (Magnolia Tree in front of Church) was moved to March 31 at 6pm. On March 29, the PCCW is sponsoring a 56-passenger bus for the 40 Days of Life prayer vigil at the Abortion Clinic on Broad Street in Columbus. Confirmation Students and their sponsors are encouraged to attend as well as Youth Group students. We would love to have a full bus! The group would be happy to have a Clergy also. The bus is departing at 1:00pm. DEANERY REPORT: The next meeting is March 11.
MAINTENANCE: The committee built and installed an equipment shelf under the office table. Another Center table was repaired. Repaired office door issues. Several other doors in the Center were miscellaneously repaired as well. The Vestibule table and Cross were re-located for coffin access to Center. The dishwasher was de-limed in the kitchen. The Rectory porch gutter was repaired. The rose bushes were trimmed, and straw was laid. Lastly, the kitchen island cabinet doors were cleaned. The 2020 Renovations Committee: Things are still “on schedule.” Artwork, flooring, and pews are next to address. May 26 is the TENTATIVE finish date. There will be a possible walk-through scheduled in the near future for parishioners to view progress. PLEASE NOTE:It has been advised that no one should enter the church while renovations are taking place, unless absolutely necessary, due to safety concerns, Thank You.
COMMUNITY LIFE: There will be a Seder Meal on April 5. There will be a Parish Pictorial Directory this year. Pictures will be taken June 16-20 from 2:30pm-9pm and Saturday 10am-4pm. Set your calendars and wait for calls in June. There will also be a large Parish Picture taken this year. Father Hammond is going to contact the Bishop to set a date this fall for a Celebratory Mass. Father Homer is tentatively planning a History Night (based on the Church) in the month of March – keep an eye on the bulletin for more details. The Starting Point Annual Fundraising dinner is April 16 and 17. Please contact Marcia Durbin if you are interested in attending.
SOCIAL CONCERNS: March is Developmental Disabilities Month. On March 30th, the NAMIKLC is again partnering with KCH’s staff at the Center for Rehabilitation and Wellness. Cassie Simpson will help you experience yoga and explain how it can impact mental health and wellness. “Your Body and Your Mind” will be held 11:30-1:30 at the Mount Vernon Library. Space is limited. To enroll, call 740-397-3088 or email: [email protected]. Also, on March 30, the NAMIKLC will celebrate Vincent Van Gogh’s Birthday and World Bipolar Day. There will be a movie at the Mt. Vernon Library at 7:30pm. On April 6th, the NAMI “Family to Family” class will begin. This class is for anyone with a family member who suffers from a mental illness. The program has been revised and shortened to 8 weeks. April 18th is the First Annual Stomp Out Stigma Walk. It will be held at Ariel Foundation Park from 10-12:30. There is a $15.00 entry fee. Pre-register by March 18 and receive a T-shirt by size. April 10 is Good Friday – Walking Stations of the Cross begins with an opening prayer at St. Joseph Cathedral, 212 E. Broad St., Columbus at 8:30am. Participants will process to locations throughout downtown Columbus to recognize Jesus Christ’s suffering and crucifixion, as well as to reflect on current areas of social concern. There is an upcoming Speakers Panel on Wednesday from 7-8:30pm at St. Matthew the Apostle Catholic Church, 807 Havens Corners Rd., Gahanna. Learn how the Encyclical Letter has produced many fruits in the world of Building a Culture of Life, and how it continues to address the challenges of our day. Written by St. Pope John Paul II, this Church teaching on the value and inviolability of every human life, has inspired Catholics around the world. There will be a video anniversary message from Bishop Brennan and presentations on the following topics: “Walking with Mothers” by Monica Flynn (Mommies Matter), “Post Abortion Reconciliation and Healing” by Becky D’Alisso (Catholic Services Project Rachel), “Bioethics and the End of Life Issues” by Father Bob Penhallurick (Chaplin of the Catholic Medical Association Guild of Central Ohio). It is co-sponsored by St. Matthew the Apostle Catholic Church and the Diocesan Office for Social Concerns. It is free and open to the public.
