Youth Report: In July went to Zoombeezi Bay, August went canoeing. Youth also set up and ran the games at the parish festival. A letter was recently sent to parents of all students 9-12 inviting them to games and cookout on Sunday September 10, 2017 to start off the semester. Youth group will meet the first 3 Sundays of the month. Currently working on plans to tour Damascus Catholic Youth Camp in October. Working on plans for The Right to Life March in January.
Knights of Columbus: Installation of officers took place on August 21
st at the K of C Hall; it was a joint installation with St. Vincent Council 847. The first fish fry will be on September 15. September 17 will be a Pancake Breakfast.
Squires: No report
Parish Council of Catholic Women: We have the 2017-2018 calendar completed. Our first meeting is September 26, painting a sunflower with Wine and Creative Design. We will go to a winery in October and have a fall dance on November 11. Will furnish snacks for PSR again this year.
Deanery Report: No report. Meeting next week.
Maintenance: Hamilton Builders were here and did a one year follow up on basement work, passed. Extra parking lot is completed. Looking into making a sidewalk from new lot to current lot. Will check into the rust reported on the new side door and follow up with the company.
Finance & Administration: Working on being able to do auto pay for donations. Hope to get it started during Advent if there is enough interest. We are able to have collection envelopes in the packets for the Sanctuary and Interchurch. Will do Sanctuary in September and March, then Interchurch in July and December. Only a few second collections will be announced and taken up in church. Otherwise put all envelopes in regular collection. First refund check was received from Bishop’s Annual Appeal.
Community Life: Will be doing the Father Lamy award in October. Held a retirement reception for Betty Hoffman August 19/20. Held picnic for PSR teachers and council members in August. Turkey has been ordered for the November 5
th Turkey Dinner.
Social Concerns: Spoke about a few programs Knox County offers regarding drugs issues. Shared results to a survey given to youth in county regarding tobacco, alcohol and drugs. Rates are higher than thought.
Education: First teachers meeting held; minutes done, with action plan. Books have been ordered. Wanting to create a curriculum to make sure we are meeting all the standards the diocese requires. Letters to parents will be going out soon. This year is Confirmation for the 7-8 classes, which will be meeting on Sunday evenings from 6pm to 7:30pm. They will be using the program
Chosen again this year.
Worship: No report
Safety: Remember at an intersection when driving, look left and right and then left again before you proceed.
Other Business: Projector System is installed and working. There will be a brief operation introduction on Sunday September 10, 2017 in the center after the 10am Mass.
Cemetery: Motion was made and seconded to form a committee within council to update regulations at the cemetery. Concern has been expressed regarding trees in the cemetery causing problems with digging of graves and driveway issues in near future. Motion was made and seconded to move forward with widening the drive with gravel on the north side; also to sealcoat the drive and mark enter and exit on the drive with arrows.
