Opening Prayer: Led by Father Mark Hammond
Approval of Minutes: Motion to approve August 4th minutes as written. Motion passed.
Youth Group: The Youth Group will sponsor pizza and games at The Center on Friday September 5
th after the Fredericktown football game. All youth are welcome. The Y Disciple Program will start in conjunction with this year’s PSR Program. There will be a Youth Group Picnic on September 28
th at King Beach. Discussion took place regarding a budget fund for Youth Group activities. A request was made for funds to purchase two TV’s to support the audio visual needs of the Youth Group and the Y Disciple Program. Quotes were requested for the purchase.
The Squires are still in need of a leader. Any Knight who is interested please contact the Parish Office.
Knights of Columbus: Installation of new officers took place Monday August 18
th, followed by a pot luck dinner. John Blanchard was re-elected as Grand Knight. The first Fish Fry this fall will be Friday September 19
th. The first Pancake Breakfast will be Sunday September 21
st.
Parish Council of Catholic Women: The Harvest Auction will be September 22
nd at 7:00PM, dessert will be served. A play pen will be placed in the Church for donations of baby clothes, etc. All donations will be given to Starting Point (formerly Care Net), in support of Respect for Life Month which is October.
Deanery Report: No report.
The Rectory has been cleaned and completely checked over. The window wells at The Rectory were repaired. A de-humidifier will be installed in the basement to address dampness. Father Hammond reiterated that The Rectory will continue to be maintained, cleaned regularly and functioning, the use of the lower level for PSR, group functions etc., was encouraged. Our thanks to Marcia and George Durbin for their help inspecting and cleaning at the Rectory. The issue of bats in the Church belfry was discussed, the problem will be addressed.
Finance and Administration: St. Luke’s finances for the previous fiscal year are good. The Finance Committee met and approved the new budget that starts July 1
st. There will be a need for major Church and Center building maintenance and repairs this year. The cost for tuck pointing, step and sidewalk repair, etc., is currently not in the budget, funds will be needed to cover this project. Quotes are being submitted and the project is expected to start in the spring of 2015.
Community Life: Voting for the Father Lamy Award will take place in October.
Social Concerns: Clothes will be donated to Starting Point in October. There will be a NAMI sponsored dinner on September 14
th to address Suicide Prevention. It will be held at Knox County Career Center.
Education Report: PSR classes start this month. Father Vince will kick off the first meeting held September 3
rd. This year there will be approximately 70 students, K-12. Father Hammond encouraged the sharing of resources between St. Luke’s and St Vincent’s in the support of the Education Program.
Father Hammond is preparing communication to the Eucharistic Ministers and Ushers to standardize practices at St. Luke’s and the other churches in The Consortium Group. Further information will be forthcoming.
Safe Environment: There will be a Virtus Class at St. Vincent’s at 6:00 September 8
th. Anyone working with Youth programs and projects should plan to attend. Fingerprinting and a background check are needed and can be obtained at the Knox County Sherriff’s Department. An authorization letter can be obtained from the office so the parish will be billed.
Old Business:
Thanks to Paul Butts for the removal of the stump and dirt on the church grounds.
Quotes are being obtained for the cost of installing new playground equipment (if approved).
To support Father Hammond and a continued smooth Consortium transition, discussion took place to extend the term of service for the 4 Council members whose term would be ending, by one year. As a result of the discussion, the following Motion was made:
“Council will amend the bylaws to allow for a one year term extension for: Ed Annett, Mark Latorre, Elaine Didinger and Amy Mickley. Contingent on Parish approval, the bylaws will be changed.”
Parish approval will be requested on an upcoming weekend.
Contingent on approval, the Motion will be voted on and passed as well as bylaws changed at the November Parish Council Meeting.
