Parish Council Minutes March 7, 2016

Meeting called to order: Don Hawk
Approval of Minutes: Motion to approve February minutes as written.
Youth Report: Met last night. No longer doing Relationships under Construction; went back to Life Teen program.
Knights of Columbus: The February Knight of the Month:Jerry Mickley - Jerry is a long time member of Council #910 as well as St. Luke's Parish. He has supported the Knights program for many years, most notably is the Fish Fries, both the preparation and the day of the event. Jerry is one of the key individuals who cooks the fish. At any Fish Fry, Jerry can be counted on for support and help. We wish to thank and congratulate Jerry as the February Knight of the Month for all that he does for St. Luke's and Council #910.
The February Family of the Month: Sandy and Leonard Mickley - Leonard and Sandy are long time members of St. Luke Parish, Leonard a long time member of Council #910. Leonard is also key in his support of the fish cooking at our Fish Fries as well as the preparation the day before. He can be seen early on Friday afternoon getting things set up. Sandy does an excellent job supporting many ministries at St. Luke as well as her responsibilities in the Parish Office. Sandy helps with the preparation of the fish the night before. Sandy and Leonard truly make the support of St. Luke's and Council 910 a family event. We wish to thank and congratulate Sandy and Leonard, the February Family of the Month, for their support of St. Luke's and Council #910.
The Knights of Columbus would like to thank, St. Luke's, Danville, Knox County and the surrounding communities for the outpouring of support and generosity for the Officer Cottrell Benefit Dinner. Over 675 meals were served. Final contribution amounts are being calculated and will be disbursed over the next couple of weeks. The Annual Father and Son Banquet was held and attended by 30 and enjoyed by all. Our thanks to the PCCW for their support for this event. The 2016 Free-throw Contest was held on Sunday February 28
th at the Danville Middle School. While turnout for this joint Council 910/847 event was lower than expected, all participants had a great time. A special thanks to Kevin Wills for heading up this years event. Fish Fries will continue through Lent. Our final Pancake Breakfast for Spring will be April 10
th.
Squires: No report
Parish Council of Catholic Women: Valentine Dance went wonderful; was sold out. Held Lenten luncheon February 11; had about 25 people. Prepared and served Father Son Breakfast for 30 or so people. Next month’s meeting will be Monday March 14 at KCCC with pamper yourself. Will prepare & serve Lenten luncheon on Good Friday.
Deanery Report: Meets on Tuesday. Will have report next month.
Maintenance: The church, center and rectory have been baited. Motion passed to have LuCrest Pest Control maintain the traps quarterly.
Finance & Administration: Nothing new to report at this time.
Community Life: Sorry to have forgotten roses for Marriage Weekend, but gave them the following weekend which was better for the roses. Honored couples married 50 years and over. Will make noodles on Saturday, March 12 for the Seder Meal. Seder Meal will be held on Palm Sunday, March 20. Contacted pictorial directory company regarding concerns but they have not returned calls.
Social Concerns: Starting Point will host their banquets on April 14-15.
Education: As we approach the end of the Lenten season, we will have Stations of the Cross with students in grades K-6. The Living Stations will take place on Good Friday at 8:30pm presented by the Confirmation Candidates. The second grade students are busy preparing for their First Communion. First communion will be on Sunday, May 15 at the 10am Mass. Confirmation students are continuing their preparation. The Bishop will be here to administer Confirmation on Wednesday, June 8 at 7:00pm.
Worship: Working on way to notify people if Mass is cancelled. More people need to sign-up to come be with Our Lord during Eucharistic Adoration. Fr. Hammond expressed concern that persons may not always be present during adoration. Please sign up, so we can continue having this once a month.
Safety: Sunday’s event was attended by about 50 people. Will continue moving forward with plans and get them out to parishioners when able.
Festival update: Key functions are confirmed. There will be a few changes to the auction this year. More information will be coming.
