St. Luke Parish Council Minutes October 6, 2014
Present: Father Mark Hammond, Tom Harrmann, Tammy Harrmann, Bobbie Thomas, Elaine Didinger, Roger Holland, Dave Rashley, Joanna Mickley, Regina Quinn II, Mark Latorre and Monica Blanchard
Excused: Marcia Durbin, Vic Campanelli, Ed Annett and Amy Mickley
Call to Order: President Mark Latorre at 7:00PM. Opening Prayer: Led by Father Mark Hammond
Approval of Minutes: Motion to approve September 2nd minutes as written. Motion passed with one amendment, take out ?stump removal? comment in old business.
Youth Group: The Youth Group has been serving pizza after home football meetings. So far a total of 40 youths have attended from St. Luke?s, Danville and other area churches. More advertising is planned. A motion was made and approved for up to $500.00 to be spent on two televisions from Herald?s. The TV will be used by the Youth Group, Y Disciple and other Church functions. Further discussion took place regarding a separate budget for the Youth Group. It was decided that it will be taken up again in the budget planning for 2016.
Squires: The Squires are in still in need of a leader. Any Knight that is interested please contact the Parish Office.
Knights of Columbus: The September Knight of the Month is John Blanchard. Our thanks to John for all his contributions and leadership as this year?s Grand Knight. We also wish to thank and congratulate Leo and Teresa Mickley as the September Family of the Month. Their support of the Fish Fry?s and Pancake Breakfast?s is recognized and greatly appreciated. Congratulations again to Leo, Teresa and John, outstanding job! The next Fish Fry will be October 17th, a Pancake breakfast October 19th. The annual Cemetery Mass will be held on Sunday October 26th, 2:00PM at the St. Luke?s Cemetery.
Parish Council of Catholic Women: The Harvest Auction was held September 22nd and fun was had by all. There will be a baby play pen in the Church during the month of October, Respect for Life month. All baby and maternity items will be donated to Starting Point (formerly Care Net). At the next meeting, October 27th, hard tack candy will be made. The PCCW will have a bazaar at the Turkey Dinner.
Deanery Report: The last Deanery Meeting was held on Sept. 9th at St. Vincent?s. St. Luke?s is sponsoring a bus trip to the ?March for Life? in Washington departing on January 21 and returning January 24, 2015. All are encouraged to attend this life changing event. There will be more information forthcoming. Anyone interested in signing up please contact Bobbie Thomas or the Parish Office. St. Edward?s is currently holding an autism program that is running every Monday throughout the school year. Enrollment is still open, please contact Barbara Lectner at 740-587-7214. The class is geared to help parents of autistic children. St. Edwards is also sponsoring a parish mission Oct. 27-29 with Paulist Father Vincent McKierman entitled ?God?s Unconditional Love.? St. Vincent?s library is open the 1st Sunday of the month after every Mass and after the 10:00AM Mass every other Sunday. The Church of the Nativity, Utica is still supporting the Prison Ministry; hygiene items are needed. St. Brendan, Hilliard will host ?Navigating the Course at the End of Life?, Sunday October 18th at 9:00AM and October 22nd at 7:00PM.
Maintenance: The issue of bats in the Church belfry is in the process of being resolved. Stronger hardware to support the side entrance door is going to be ordered and installed. A motion was made and passed to authorize repairs up to $500.00 with Father Mark?s approval. A second motion was made and passed that all repairs over

$500.00 will need the Parish Council?s consideration as well as Father Mark?s approval. The Sacristy outside door crack will be repaired.
Finance and Administration: Father Mark reported that St. Luke?s Finances continue to be in good condition.
Community Life: Father Lamy Awards will be announced on October 18th and 19th. Sign-ups are taking place this weekend, October 13th and 14th to help with the Turkey Dinner being held on November 2nd. The older furniture on the second floor of the Rectory will be donated to the High School drama club or discarded.
Social Concerns: Starting Point?s Walk for Life is Oct. 11. The Mount Vernon St. Vincent DePaul society is very involved in the community. Volunteers and donations are appreciated for this worthy Ministry.
Education Report: Assistants are needed for all PSR classes; anyone interested please contact the Parish Office. There are 12 Kindergartners this year. Planning for the 2nd Grade First Holy Communion is underway. Our thanks go to Roger Holland for once again donating time and talent to take pictures of our ?Saints of the Future?.
Worship: Father Hammond wishes to welcome Deacon Brian O?Connor to the Consortium. Father Mark also extends his thanks and recognition to Father Blubaugh for all his tireless support and help of St. Luke?s Parish, specifically an outstanding job during the transition. There will be an Advent Penance Service December 10th. The Christmas Mass will be celebrated by Father Blubaugh. St. Luke?s Christmas Mass schedule: Christmas Eve Pageant 7:00PM, Mass 7:30PM & Christmas Day: 9:00AM. St. Vincent?s: Christmas Eve, 4:00PM, 6:00PM and Midnight & Christmas Day 10:30AM. Church of the Nativity: Midnight & Christmas day 9:00AM.
St. Luke?s New Year?s Mass schedule: New Year?s Eve 7:30PM. & New Year?s Day 9:00AM.
Safe Environment: The St. Vincent?s Protecting God?s Children class was attended by twenty people. Seven new
facilitators have been trained.
Old Business:
A motion was made and passed to remove from consideration a term extension for the Parish Council members leaving this year, as well as any applicable Bylaw changes. No further action will be taken.
Discussion took place regarding the Ministry Party. Date and time information will be forthcoming.
Elections for new Parish Council Members will take place on November 16th and 17th. Anyone interested
in running for election should contact the Parish Office.
Playground replacement was discussed and is still under consideration, no final decision was made.
Building Maintenance and Renovation: Discussion took place around three bids that have been submitted
to repair the Church exterior. Further review of the project cost and scope are needed by the Diocese, Finance Committee and Parish Council before a final approval will be given. A motion was made and passed to facilitate the creation of a building committee to be formed by Father Mark and Mark Latorre. If approved the work would start in the spring. More information around the project and fund raising will be forthcoming.
