Parish Council Minutes April 3, 2017

Approval of Minutes: Approved as written
Youth Report: Just finished a series on “Get Happy, Stay Happy” finding true complete happiness in Christ. The teens will be attending and helping with the Seder Meal April 9
th and Living Stations on Good Friday April 14
th. The Youth will be repairing and running the games for the parish festival. We are also looking into a possible summer Mission Trip. Planning summer activities.
Knights of Columbus: Knight of the Month: Annual awards were voted on this month, will resume monthly Knight and Family awards in April. 2017 K of C raffle tickets are on sale. Please contact any Knight if you are interested in purchasing one. They are also for sale through the youth group and at the fish fry or pancake breakfast. The 2017 Council 910 Membership drive is underway. If any man is interested in joining please contact any Knight or the parish office. The AED and First Aid training took place after the 10am Mass on March 26
th. Thanks to all that attended. A special thanks to Marcia Durbin for teaching this very important class. We would like to thank the parish for participating in the pancake breakfasts this year. We will resume them in the fall.
2017 Calendar and upcoming events:
Fish Fry April 7th and 21st. Last two until fall.
April 29th Annual Measure Up Fundraiser in Danville
April 22nd at 8:30am will resume spring pick up for the “Adopt A Highway.” Meet at Duane Mickley’s building on Route 62. All are welcome.
Squires: Held a volleyball tournament on April 1
st and 2
nd at St. Luke. It was well attended. All Squires attended the pancake breakfast and participated in the 10am Mass.
Parish Council of Catholic Women: Last meeting was cancelled due to Ashley being sick. They will be sending out the scholarship applications to seniors before April 15
th. There will be a Good Friday Lenten Luncheon. Helped with the Lenten luncheon for the hospice minister. Next meeting is April 23
rd at 2pm with craft of fairy planters. Bring your planter filled with potting soil. Card party has started back up, will now start at 6:30pm with food served first. Mother–Daughter banquet will be May 7
th after the 10am Mass.
Deanery Report: Last meeting was held with the new Dean Fr. Jonathon Wilson from Blessed Sacrament. He requested that parishes check their baptism, marriages and confirmations over the last ten years to see the trends. This will help with future planning. Next meeting will be May 9
th at St. Luke.
Maintenance: The new side door has been installed.
Finance & Administration: Catholic Foundation Grant for the work on the church has arrived. Thank you to the foundation for their support.
Community Life: Been preparing soup and bread for the Lenten retreats. Served the priests their dinner before the penance service. Will prepare the Seder meal Sunday April 9
th.
Social Concerns: April is Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month. Knox County Department of Job & Family Services held a Community Night on Monday April 3
rd. There is a great need for foster parents in our community. There will be a 2017 School Choice Rally on May 2
nd at 11am at the Statehouse. This is to show elected leaders that school choice is important.
Education: Finalizing details for the Living Stations which will be Good Friday April 14
th. First Communion will be April 30
th at the 10AM Mass. May Crowning and Closing of PSR Wednesday May 3
rd at 6:30pm. Finishing interviews for DRE position.
Worship: Plans for Holy Week and Easter are finalized.
Safety: Father’s Sacristy needs locked during Masses; will get servers to do this. Added a fire extinguisher near the side door of the church. The east door of the center will be unlocked during Masses to make the restrooms handicap accessible and AED available.
Other Business: Continuing to move forward with the wireless projector. Hope to start installing soon. Lenten Program “Forgiven” is going well. Several people from St. Vincent and St. Luke have attended.
