Parish Council Minutes November 2nd, 2020 – Via Zoom PRESENT: Father Hammond, Roger Durbin, Marcia Durbin, Barb McComb, Joe Tapocsi, Shelby Mickley, Dave Rashley, Chris Mehringer-Smith, Bill Durbin, Marie Mosher, Ed Gardner, Keith Mickley, Frank Meravy – New Member. EXCUSED: Tammy Harrmann, Sheryl Mickley APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Approved as written.
EDUCATION: High School Youth Group is still meeting with Damascus at St. Vincent.Middle School Youth Group had their 1st session with Damascus in October at St. Luke. (25 students attended between St. Vincent and St. Luke).PSR classes K-8th grade are still in attendance. Practiced a fire drill in October which is Fire Safety Month.Reminder to all parents that if the Ohio Public Health Advisory System places Knox County in the red we will suspend all classes until January 2021.
KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS: The KofC would like to introduce our new Grand Knight, Frank Meravy. He has done an outstanding job as the Deputy Grand Knight.Our thanks to those who were at the Cemetery Mass. 25 people were in attendance. Father Blubaugh celebrated the Mass.Plans are underway to hold a drive-thru Fish Fry on January 15 and 29.Additional information will be forthcoming.Council 910 is now part of the Kroger Community Awards Program.The program makes Fundraising easy by donating to local organizations on the shopping you do every day.More information will be coming with the program details.The annual Memorial Mass will be Sunday December 13 at 4pm. It will be held at St. Luke’s Church. Due to the COVID-19 Virus there will be no potluck meal.Support our Seminarians will be held on November 7 and 8.
PARISH COUNCIL OF CATHOLIC WOMEN: There will be no bus trip for the 40 Days of Life trip. We are looking forward to an opportunity next year.
DEANERY: No new report.
MAINTENANCE: Outlets were installed outside of the Rectory garage for future use(s). An indicator light on the new sound system was installed. Shelves were installed in the Rectory garage for organization, and the first coat of paint was applied to the rectory Bilco doors. The old sound system was removed from the Church. The large speaker was also moved. The downspout was corrected, and the maintenance committee continues to work on water issues in the Rectory basement.
COMMUNITY LIFE: The Turkey Dinner Drive Thru went very well! Between 425 and 450 meals were served. Christmas Baskets are in discussion.
SOCIAL CONCERNS: November is Alzheimer Disease Awareness Month and American Diabetes Month. November 18 is the 2nd World Day for the Poor. A message from Pope Francis for the World Day for the Poor is on the Diocese of Columbus Social Concerns website, menu, and upcoming events.The Catholic Campaign for Human Development Collection will be on the weekend of November 21-22, the Sunday before Thanksgiving. BEREAVEMENT: Florence Eileen Heldenbrand, Mother of Bonnie (Jeffery) Ike and Sister of Marilyn Arnold and Margie Samples passed away September 15. Funeral Mass was held at St. Luke, Tuesday October 20. Marilyn Ridgway Roberts, Aunt of Debra Ridgway and sister-in-law of Sandy Ridgway, passed away October 4. Graveside service was held October 8 at Workman Cemetery. Gail Ed Neighbarger, Brother of Leonard (Martha) Neighbarger, passed away October 14. Graveside service was held October 20 at Greenlawn Cemetery. Donna Husak, daughter of Don and Barb Horn, passed away October 26. Service was held October 30 at Andras Cremation Service in Lorain OH. Barbara Horn’s Sister, Rebecca Casey, passed away October 26. Service was held November 1. Please remember to keep these families in prayer during this most difficult time. We are excited to welcome Cyndi Atkinson as a new member of the Ministry.
WORSHIP: The Rural Life Mass was October 26. Thank you, Marcia Durbin, and those who helped prepare the dinner for our Bishop, Priests, and Deacon. Adoration will continue for 4 hours per week on Tuesday evenings and Wednesday mornings. There will be no Penance Service during Advent. We are starting to look at calendar planning for Christmas. The votive candle rack will be going back into the Church.
SAFETY: It was suggested by a parishioner to put an inside bolt lock on the choir loft door, it would give an additional element of security for those in the loft. Ushers: There will be a Zoom meeting on November 12, anyone who is interested in ushering please contact the Parish Office or Dave Rashley.
FINANCE: The first quarter report has gone out and all continues to be well!
Miscellaneous Notes: The Parish Council is still in need of new members for January 2021! There are forms in the Parish Office. Please let us know of any nominees/candidates for parish council. There will be small changes in decorating for Christmas this year due to the recent renovations.
