They replaced a security light on the northwest corner of the Center. The dishwasher was delimed and the kitchen was sprayed for ants. They repaired 3 lights above the east side doors of the Center. They also replaced all the old 110-volt receptacles in the garage. All door locks on the classroom and office door were replaced. Several additional items were brought to the council’s attention and were discussed including the need for a covering above the outside picnic table and siding for the rectory garage. Marcia Durbin made a motion to allot money for both projects which will be completed by the maintenance committee. The motion was seconded by Barb McComb. The purchase of a generator for the Center was also discussed again. This generator would keep everything going in the Center except the air conditioner. Finance & Administration: Fr. Hammond has no report this month but hopes to have a complete report for the next meeting.
Social Concerns: No report Respect Life: Next month the U.S. Supreme Court will announce their ruling on the Dobbs case. The court may uphold Mississippi’s 15 week ban on abortion, or the justices could overturn the 1973 Roe v Wade decision and allow the states to enact their own laws. Currently Ohio law allows abortion up to 20 weeks. There are 4 bills being presented to Ohio’s legislative committees. The Human Life Protection Act would ban abortion in Ohio and would go into effect if Roe v Wade is overturned. The Born-AliveInfant Protection Act would require doctors to perform life-saving treatment if a baby is born alive during an abortion. The Abortion Trafficking Prevention Act would prevent fetal tissue trafficking from taking place in Ohio. And The Abortion Pill ReversalInformation Act requires doctors prescribing a chemical abortion to provide written information informing the patient of reversal procedures in the event she changes her mind. These are all proposals which protect and promote the dignity of human life. For more information about these bills and how you can let your congressional representative know your opinion, visit www.ohiolife.org.
Festival Report: July 16 is the date of our St. Luke Parish Festival. Six members of the Festival Committee met at 9am on Sunday, April 11 at the Center. The festival will start at 5pm and end at 10pm. We are checking on the price of chicken to determine the price for the barbecue chicken meals. We hope our parish family will support our festival by offering to help and by getting the word out to family and friends. Most importantly, we hope everyone will plan to attend our festival. The festival committee will meet again on Sunday, May 15 at 9am at the Center. Anyone who is interested in helping to plan the festival is welcome to attend.
Bereavement: Since the last meeting of Parish Council on April 4, there is one parishioner’s death to report. Judy Ann Colopy, the sister of Jean Gardner and Mimi (Bill) Durbin, passed away April 21. Father James Colopy, son of Judy, celebrated the Mass of Christian Burial Thursday, April 28 at St. Luke. Interment followed at St. Luke Cemetery. Please keep the Colopy family in prayer during this difficult time. There are no specific updates to report this month, though I am working on several new things for the ministry. We are still waiting to hear from Deacon Tim regarding a time when we can get together to discuss the possibility of the start of a Bereavement Ministry at St. Vincent de Paul.
Worship: Father Olvera has been assigned as Parochial Vicar of St. Paul the Apostle in Westerville and Father P.J. Brandimarti will be assigned as Parochial Vicar of St. Vincent and St. Luke parishes effective July 12. As a seminarian, Fr. Brandimarti spent a summer with us during our first year as a consortium. God’s blessing to both Fr. Olvera and Fr. Brandimarti as each carry on their sacred vocations. Please keep them in your prayers. Our First Holy Communion Mass went well. God’s blessings on these students and thank you to the teachers who worked so hard to prepare them. Confirmation Mass is scheduled for June 9. We will be blessed to have our new bishop here to confirm our students.
Real Presence/Real Future: You are strongly encouraged to participate in RP/RF.
