KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS: The Measure-Up fundraiser went great. A portion of the donations will go to the local Pelia Equine Therapy Program. On June 13 the Knights will participate in Adopt-A-Highway. A drive-thru chicken dinner is scheduled for Saturday, August 28, 11:00am-2:00pm. The Knights had their collection for seminarians the weekend of June 5-6.
PARISH COUNCIL OF CATHOLIC WOMEN: The PCCW passed out flowers to mothers at the weekend Masses May 8th & 9th.
COMMUNITY LIFE: A Baccalaureate Service for this year’s graduates was held at St. Luke on Sunday, May 16, sponsored by the Association of Danville Area Ministers. Marcia Durbin served cookies and beverages outside after the service. There are still plans to have a 200th celebration of our St. Luke Parish and hopefully Bishop Brennan can be present.
MAINTENANCE: The maintenance committee is working to keep up with needed repairs to the church and other buildings. They have been painting and repairing windows, spouting, drains, holes and leaks. The votive candle rack is ready to place in church as well as the holy water font. The flooring in the women’s restroom will be replaced.
SOCIAL CONCERNS: No report
RESPECT LIFE: “Walking With Moms in Need” is a program that is being promoted by our diocesan Office for Social Concerns. It is an initiative to support expectant/parenting moms and their families. Linda Bratton will check into the program.
BEREAVEMENT: Since the last meeting of Parish Council on May 3, there have been no deaths within or associated with our parish to report. We received another donation to the ministry. We are humbled by the ongoing support we continue to receive. The Bereavement Ministry met via Zoom on Thursday, May 6. All necessary updates were covered. We plan to meet again in early October to review details for the Memorial Gathering. I briefly spoke with Deacon Tim regarding the start of a Bereavement Ministry at St. Vincent de Paul. This effort is essentially a restart, since we were interrupted by the COVID pandemic in the early stages of our previous discussions. WORSHIP: Bishop Brennan will confirm our students on Thursday, June 17. Our graduates will be recognized at the 5:00 Mass on Saturday, June 19. St. Luke will have a Mission Appeal during the July 10-11 weekend Masses. We will have another seminarian beginning on June 15.
SAFETY: Efforts continue to keep doors locked and to remove any tripping hazards to insure everyone’s safety. The side door to the church will be updated with a new code for safety reasons.
FINANCE & ADMINISTRATION: Our finances continue to be in good order. The Bishop’s Annual Appeal is going well. A report on the Disciple Maker Index for ‘Real Presence, Real Future’ will be shared soon. There will be a Eucharistic gathering of all priests in the diocese in August. Please keep our priests in our prayers.
NEW BUSINESS: There is a need to spruce up the sacristy. Nothing was done during the recent redecoration of the church. The walls need painted and the flooring replaced.
Hymn books are being put back into the church. Eucharistic Adoration will be returning.
