PARISH COUNCIL MINUTES January 3, 2022 – 6:30 – Via Zoom
PRESENT: Father Hammond, Brenda Arnold, Linda Bratton, Bill Durbin, Marcia Durbin, John Fongheiser, Ed Gardner, Marie Holland, Frank Meravy, Barb McComb, Keith Mickley, Sheryl Mickley, Marie Mosher, Dave Rashley EXCUSED: Tammy Harrmann, Chris Mehringer-Smith APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Bill Durbin made a motion to approve the minutes as written. The motion was seconded by Ed Gardner. The motion carried.
ELECTION OF OFFICIERS: These members were nominated and unanimously approved: Marie Mosher-President, Ed Gardner-Vice President, Linda Bratton-Secretary
EDUCATION & YOUTH REPORT:PSR: Classes will resume Wednesday, January 12 at 6:30pm. Father Blubaugh offered to complete the Sacrament of Reconciliation with the 3 students who missed the Penance Service due to illness or exposure. Confirmation: Classes will resume Sunday, January 9 at 6pm. Attendance has been spotty for the month of December due to illness. Confirmation retreat will be held Saturday, March 12 at St. Luke Center. More information will be provided soon. Youth Group: Classes resume January 9 at 6pm. The “Alive” series will finish up in January. Reminder to Parents: If there is inclement weather in the upcoming months and classes need to be cancelled, parents will be contacted through a call or text. KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS: Coats for Kids is completed with 22 new coats along with new hats and gloves. There will be 2 fish fries this month, January 14 and 28 from 5-7pm. These will be held in the center with social distancing being observed. A basketball free-throw contest is coming up. The Knights made donations to the Kentucky and Tennessee tornado relief. The most recent collection for the seminarians was $195.53.
PARISH COUNCIL OF CATHOLIC WOMEN/COMMUNITY LIFE: PCCW is planning to have the annual Valentine’s Dinner/Dance on February 12. 37 Christmas Baskets were distributed for 74 kids. Christmas decorations in the church will be taken down on January 9 after 10am Mass. We hope people will stay to help put the decorations away. A date for taking pictures for our St. Luke Pictorial Directory will be scheduled in June or July.
DEANERY: No meeting since the start of COVID-19.
MAINTENANCE: The refurbishing of the women’s bathroom in the center is now finished. Other repairs have been completed in the church and the center including fixing a leak in the center roof and adding new lighting in the church sacristy. The maintenance committee has straightened flag holders at the cemetery.
FINANCE & ADMINSTRATION: Our finances are in good shape thanks to the generosity of the parishioners of St. Luke. Please continue to support our parish by giving to our weekly collections.
SOCIAL CONCERNS: No report
RESPECT FOR LIFE: No report
BEREAVEMENT: Since the last meeting of Parish Council on December 6, there is one death within the parish to report. Charlotte Marie Totman, the daughter of Janet Sapp, sister to Marcia (George) Durbin and Aaron Sapp passed asway December 15, 2021, Father Blubaugh celebrated the Mass at St. Luke’s on December 18; interment followed at St. Luke’s Cemetery. There was also one parish-related death worthy of note. Patricia May Hurst Cowling, sister-in-law of Mindy (Dave) Rashley, passed away December 17. A funeral service was held Thursday, December 23 at Bissler and Sons Funeral Home in Kent. Interment followed at Crown Hill Cemetery. Please remember to keep these families in prayer during this difficult time. We had an impressive turnout of 85 attendees at the Memorial Gathering on December 9. We have received several donations in support of the ministry for which we remain humbled.
WORSHIP: St. Luke Parishioners are invited to St. Vincent de Paul for a presentation by Jeff Cavins on Monday, February 21 from 7-8pm. Ash Wednesday is on March 2 and Easter is April 17. There will be a meeting of priests to discuss the results of the Real Presence/Real Future survey. The information will be presented to all of us at a later date.
REAL PRESENCE/ REAL FUTURE: At this time information is being collected and analyzed before a report will be presented.
SAFETY: Everyone is being reminded to make sure doors get locked behind you. There will be a retraining for Active Shooter along with CPR and Medical training on February 6after 10am Mass.

Choosing Committees: Brenda Arnold will head up the Social Concerns committee.
Live Stream Adoration: Adoration will be live streamed on Tuesday evening from 5:30 – 7:30.
Moving the Spoils/Dirt Pile: Bill Durbin explained the plan to move the spoils/dirt pile at the cemetery in order to add a road. This will improve the present situation. An estimate has been turned in to complete this project. After some discussion, Dave Rashley made a motion to complete the project. It was seconded by Barb McComb. The motion was carried.
