Parish Council Minutes February 1, 2021 – 6:30pm – Via Zoom
PRESENT: Father Hammond, Linda Bratton, Bill Durbin, Marcia Durbin, John Fongheiser, Ed Gardner, Marie Holland, Barb McComb, Sheryl Mickley, Dave Rashley, Keith Mickley, Marie Mosher, Chris Mehringer-Smith, Frank Meravy EXCUSED: Tammy Harrmann.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Marcia Durbin made a motion to approve the minutes as written. Barb McComb second the motion. Motion was carried.
EDUCATION and YOUTH REPORT: PSR will reconvene the week of February 8th if the county is out of the Red. Parents are encouraged to listen to St. Gabriel radio, 820AM to cultivate family faith. St. Luke is seeking more volunteers for the youth group program. There is a concern regarding an increase in teen suicide due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS: The Knights of Columbus had two drive thru fish fries on January 15th and 29th. They have received positive reviews of the fish and the setup. The next fish fry will by February 12 with fish fries continuing throughout Lent with two additional fish fries in April. The Knights will also be beginning the Super Bonanza ticket sales soon. All Knights are encouraged to participate in the Men’s Conference on February 27th. The conference is virtual this year. You may join other parishioners in the center to watch the conference or you can watch from the comfort of your own home. Support our Seminarians: Donations were $114.41.

COMMUNITY LIFE: COVID-19 has limited current events. Looking into the possibility of having the Seder Meal.

MAINTENANCE: Bill Durbin reported that work is being completed at the cemetery. More gravel is needed in the Northwest corner, but some additional work must be done prior. Property lines for the cemetery have been checked with maps from the county. The maintenance crew repaired an altar table, installed new lights, replaced missing outlet cover in the kitchen. Weekly checks on the house have occurred. The basement remains dry and may be able to be used for storage in the future. A new door in the bell tower was installed to replace the current screen. Wire was ran for the new camera system.
SOCIAL CONCERNS: Lent is fast approaching. Families are encouraged to participate in the Lenten Journey by utilizing Prayer, Fasting and Almsgiving. Parents are also encouraged to seek out information regarding ‘Raising a Pro-Life Generation’.
RESPECT LIFE: 40 Days for Life is active during this time. You are encouraged to pray for life. Individuals can sign up for times to pray outside of the Planned Parenthood Surgical Center in Columbus.

Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Luke, Tuesday January 12, followed by burial at St. Luke Cemetery. Additionally, the following non-members have passed away. Robert Charles (Rob) Abbitt, brother of Sheryl (Duane) Mickley, died December 31, 2020. Memorial service for Rob will be held at a later date. Marjorie M. Curry, the mother of Amy (Pat) Mickley, died January 2, 2021. Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Vincent de Paul. Jean Marie Johnson Hammond, mother of Father Mark J Hammond, died January 9, 2021. Father Hammond celebrated her funeral Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes. Please remember to keep these families in prayer during this difficult time. We have received several inquiries regarding the Annual Memorial Gathering, scheduled for December. To date, approximately 30 people have expressed interest in attending. We are still planning a Zoom status meeting with members of the ministry, hopefully to be held yet this month.
WORSHIP: Father Olvera is feeling better. He hopes to be back for the weekend Masses. Tuesday Mass was cancelled with Father Homer presiding on Wednesday and Thursday. Ash Wednesday Masses will be at 11am and 6:30pm. Due to COVID-19, ashes will be sprinkled on the heads of parishioners. Stations of the Cross will occur on Fridays during Lent at 7pm.
SAFETY: Schmidt has been working with several members of the safety and maintenance committees to trouble shoot problems with the Wi-Fi and new camera system. The live stream worked well on Saturday evening with issues arising on Sunday. Progress is being made and work will continue to clear up any remaining issues. A special thanks to Ed Gardner, Bill Durbin, Roger Durbin and Steve Butcher for all their work in this area.
FINANCE: Collections continue to be generous. The January report will be reviewed at the next meeting.
OLD BUSINESS: The Raccoon Dinner has been postponed. No meeting has occurred. Thank you to Mike Colopy for plowing the church parking lot and to George and Bronson Durbin and Leonard Mickley for clearing the sidewalks before Mass. The cemetery was plowed as well by Aaron Sapp.
NEW BUSINESS: Keith Mickley will update committee lists and chair heads. A list will be provided at the next council meeting. New members may select one or more committees to join. A basket will be placed by the side door for donations for Interchurch Food Pantry. Marcia will pick up donations and deliver them on Tuesdays. Barb McComb mentioned a parishioner concern regarding a need for handrails. Keith will discuss this issue with Father Olvera. The dirt pile at the cemetery will need to be moved. Aaron Sapp will collaborate with the maintenance committee to get this completed.
